"John and his crew were exceptional. Professional and friendly. They took down trees. Cleaned the area and extended our yard. The transformation was amazing. I would highly recommend their company. "I had hired Southern Berkshire Tree to remove 6 white pines out of my backyard without easy access to the yard and I could not imagine there being a better tree service in the county. I had hired another company before sbts to remove one tree, and they destroyed my yard and had to get 12 yards of dirt to repair it. But with Scott and his crew it was low impact to my yard with no damage at all. Great communication before, during and after the job was done. Cleanup was superb and beyond what one would expect. Not to mention the price was comparable to other quotes but may not get the quality from others. Highly recommend them!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

In most ways, palm trees are incredibly low-maintenance. They don’t need a ton of water—which is why they’re so beloved in desert regions—and they basically prune themselves. But they do need an ample supply of sunlight and to be in soil that will allow for proper drainage so that their roots don’t become waterlogged and at risk of developing illnesses.

If the plant begins to wilt, develop spots, or change color, these could all be signs that your palm tree has a disease. But a few basic treatments, like pruning and applying fungicide, will usually be more than enough to return it to perfect health.

Ideally, you should wait to prune until trees have gone dormant in late fall to early winter. The worst times to prune trees are early fall and late summer, as pruning them so close to dormancy makes it difficult for the tree recover before it goes dormant for the season.

You should not trim an oak tree in the summer. Oak trees are especially susceptible to disease, and open tree wounds are an invitation for beetles that carry tree-killing fungus. If there’s no risk that the oak tree will do damage to your property or hurt someone, it’s best to save the trimming for fall or winter. If you can, seal the wound with latex to prevent fungus from getting inside.

While the trees in your backyard are good for the environment and look beautiful, they could present a danger to your home under the wrong circumstances. This task is typically beyond the capabilities of the average homeowner due to its dangerous nature, so it’s best to leave this task to a professional. In some cities, it’s even illegal to remove a tree yourself.

Trimming your palm trees once or twice per year keeps them healthy and robust. Caring for palm trees includes cutting off brown leaves to prevent wildfires and pathway obstruction. However, you don’t want to over-trim the palm tree. Cutting too many branches off will weaken the tree and prevent future growth. And it’s essential to have a strong, healthy palm tree during hurricane season to prevent safety risks or property damage.
