"John and his crew were exceptional. Professional and friendly. They took down trees. Cleaned the area and extended our yard. The transformation was amazing. I would highly recommend their company. Neighbors on our street were so impressed by their work they immediately hired them for services. We can not thank them enough for what they did for us. Also the were exceptional people. "I had hired Southern Berkshire Tree to remove 6 white pines out of my backyard without easy access to the yard and I could not imagine there being a better tree service in the county. I had hired another company before sbts to remove one tree, and they destroyed my yard and had to get 12 yards of dirt to repair it. But with Scott and his crew it was low impact to my yard with no damage at all. Great communication before, during and after the job was done. Cleanup was superb and beyond what one would expect. Not to mention the price was comparable to other quotes but may not get the quality from others. Highly recommend them!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

The speed of your tree root removal process depends on a few different factors, including the size and type of tree. However, the fastest method of killing tree roots is applying chemical herbicide, which starts working quickly and efficiently. But this removal method has its drawbacks, such as having a negative effect on the surrounding vegetation and landscaping. Other options like rock salt and stump grinding work relatively quickly and cause less damage to your yard.

A serrated knife will work for cutting off small palm tree fronds, about 1 inch in diameter. For larger fronds, you will need pruning shears. You may also use a pruning saw, and if your palm tree is especially tall, an extended pole saw can help you reach the brown fronds around the trunk.

The best time to prune Japanese flowering cherry trees depends on where you live and the type of flowering cherry tree. Some trees benefit from being pruned toward the end of winter or early spring, after the last freeze. Meanwhile, other trees do well after blooming, in late spring or early summer. Avoid pruning your flowering cherry tree in the early winter, as this encourages open wounds that can lead to infections or infestations.

You should avoid cutting off the top of mature cherry trees. This process is called tree topping, and it’s not recommended for cherry trees—or any trees, for that matter. Tree topping removes between one-third to half of the length of the tree trunk, resulting in structurally unsound, fruitless suckers. The only exception is for saplings. Young pie, sour, and tart cherry trees that are over 30 inches tall in the fall or winter before the tree blooms can benefit from heading cuts.

If it’s your property, then you can plant a tree near power lines, but it’s not the best idea. Any vegetation that grows within 10 feet or so of power lines will fall under the responsibility of the utility company, and they may trim or remove it as necessary. If you do move forward with your plan, try to choose a smaller ornamental tree, plant it as far away from the power lines as you can, and keep it trimmed to avoid future problems.
