"I had an estimate for two trees to be removed and the stumps (I was told they subcontract that out). Topsoil and grass seed were to be done as well. The estimate was an OK price, and they were fairly timely. The problems were: they caused far more yard damage than they said, which will need repair in the Spring. The yard cleanup was not great, and I had to do quite a bit more after they were done. The worst part is that no one ever came to remove the stumps, which I was told would be in 1 - 2 weeks. I emailed 3 times and called another 3 times and no one returned my messages. I paid for something I never received! I was very much lied to. I would not trust them nor I would I recommend them to anyone."

While the fastest way to kill a tree is to simply cut it down, there are several other methods to choose from. You should hire a professional tree removal service to cut down a tree to ensure your personal and property safety. Some slower but effective options include treating or grinding the tree stump or using a basal bark treatment. 

The fastest way to remove a tree stump is by burning it or grinding it. You can rent a stump grinder and do the job yourself or hire a local arborist or landscape specialist. Before burning a stump yourself, be sure to check local burn laws. Drill holes in the stump, fill them with vegetable oil, and wait 24 to 48 hours. Add charcoal bricks to the surface, then light the fire. Attend the fire at all times.

Stay inside or well away until the storm passes. Don’t go outside to inspect the tree until the weather clears, especially if the tree is on a hill or isolated in a field. Lightning often strikes the same easily-accessed places multiple times, and you could be a new target. If a lightning strike causes a noticeable fire, alert emergency services. When the storm is over, take a closer look to gauge the damage done.

Pruning trees during the summer can be a bad idea because the new growth will take place during the hottest months of the year, which can stress your tree out. Similarly, pruning during the early fall can be a bad idea, too, because you’d be stimulating new growth when most trees are aiming to go dormant.
