"I hired Family First to do some much needed yard clean up and to power wash our house and deck. He worked tirelessly and did a fantastic job for a very reasonable price. Will definitely hire him for more work."

"We were very pleased with the good communication, flexibility in scheduling, and all around professionalism. The repairs and installation went very smoothly and came out perfectly. Todd was able to tell us exactly what to expect, gave us a binding "not-to-exceed" estimate, and we paid up front for materials only, and labor only upon completion and satisfied with results. Also, it was NO problem whatsoever that we purchased our own vanity. Other places I called tried to discourage this.
Here are the bullets we dodged before finding Todd Booth:
Prior to finding Booth's Home Repair, we tried to have this work done by 2 other companies. The first one also supplies home heating oil as their main business I believe. They had a seemingly junior guy come out to look at the toilet - he said he would get the repair kit, but then just never called us back. When we tried to find out what happened, someone else told us the supplier told them the whole toilet had to be replaced, at a cost to us of around $500. I could not get anyone to explain this to me, I think they just didn't want to do the job, they never even charged us for the evaluation.
The next place we called, never had the plumber call us back, even after multiple conversations with their receptionist. We gave up after three calls to them, and acknowledging that maybe the job was too small to make it worth their time. No job is too small they said, but we never got one call back.
By that time we thought it was just us - our puny job truly wasn't worth anyone's time...But the third try was the charm for sure.
We absolutely plan on having Todd do future work for us - as it turned out, he had worked in our house before we bought it, which was nice because the work he did is great quality, and he's very familiar with the style of home we bought."

"I am a new customer of Phalan Construction. entirely pleased with the quality of services delivered. I hired Bob to reattach a fallen roof shingle, wall-mount a clothes rack, and power wash and stain my rear deck. As various as these jobs were, each was promptly and efficiently done to a high standard. Bob's charges were transparent and fair, and he was also a pleasant guy to have working around the house. He will be the first person I call when my next need arises."

Small jobs welcome

"This company is great! My very old master bedroom air conditioner failed in the night before a day when Temps were ro be 96 degrees or higher. I called in the am. They were fully booked but promised to watch for jobs that finished early and they did send someone at 2:30 PM. Derek did a fantastic job under very hot Temps . Fit the replacement in and put some caulking in to fill tiny gaps. He even swapped the top rail from the old ac with the newer one as the new ac top rail was not wide enough for the wall opening. He cut a small bit off of the existing stained wood frame to make it fit just right. Derek was meticulously clean. I had a follow up question after Derek left and Steve was thorough and courteous returning my call immediately. I have had this company fix a kitchen cabinet and they were great then as well. I have had two very good experiences and cannot thank them enough for caring enough to get right out to get our ac running so we could sleep in our master bedroom."

"Mo was great! He responded quickly and was a fair price. I had 4 projects for him to do and he took care of all of the projects quickly and efficiently in 1 day. I would recommend and use him again for more projects to get done around the property. Thank you!"

Caulking Services questions, answered by experts

Acton’s cold winters and humid summers require careful planning for home repairs and maintenance. Winter’s freeze-thaw cycles can cause foundation cracks and burst pipes, while heavy snow stresses roofs and gutters. Summer humidity may lead to wood rot or mold. Scheduling exterior repairs in spring or early fall and prioritizing weatherproofing tasks helps protect your property from Acton’s climate challenges.

Helpful?

The post and foundation are the most vulnerable parts requiring mailbox repair due to Acton's heavy snowfall and deep winter frost. This repeated freeze-thaw cycle causes post heaving and ground-level wood rot. Additionally, snowplows frequently damage mailbox doors and hinges on town-maintained roads. Mounting hardware also corrodes quickly from road salt runoff near drainage swales. Inspect these components regularly to ensure your mailbox remains secure and functional year-round.

Helpful?

Start your mailbox repair by contacting Dig Safe to locate underground utility lines, which is required by MA law. Next, verify local right-of-way rules with the public works department to determine if you need approval for concrete footings. You must also check USPS placement guidelines and any homeowner association design standards. Schedule ground excavations for spring or fall to avoid digging through deeply frozen winter soil.

Helpful?

Historic fieldstone walls near your road edge complicate mailbox repair, as disturbing them requires special town review. Underground utility lines running parallel to the street limit your excavation depth options. Additionally, Acton properties with steep road grades or drainage swales require extra footing work to ensure a stable installation. Long driveways also leave mailboxes fully exposed to snowplows, demanding deeper, reinforced post settings for proper protection.

Helpful?

After completing your mailbox repair, confirm your address numbers are clearly visible from the road for Acton emergency services. Notify the local post office if you changed the box's height or location to ensure uninterrupted delivery. Verify the new position provides adequate clearance for town snowplows. Finally, inspect the post and base after the first winter season to check for frost heave or loosening caused by frozen ground.
