"The process from start to finish went exceedingly well! The online quote system was easy and efficient to use also. We decided to completely start from scratch by removing all of the overgrown shrubbery and the overgrown wax myrtle tree from our front yard. Eric, the business owner, was very responsive and quick to reply to emails and text messages. He was able to get me a quote very quickly via the online quote app they use. I accepted it and we set up a date to have the work done. Marvin's crew showed up right on time and got right to work. The entire job was completely finished in less than 4 hours, which included a thorough cleanup of all small branches and leaves. They loaded all of the ripped out vegetation onto a trailer and took it to the dump. I was very impressed with Eric and Marvin's crew's professionalism and thoroughness. I will definitely use Cornerstone again and also recommend them to others. I've included before and after photos."

"In order to install, they had to demo the old windows and re-create the openings to fit the new windows, as well as replace some siding. They did an excellent job, at a reasonable price for the amount of work it entailed."

"I have been working in highway construction for 10 years and know how concrete should properly be formed, sloped, finished, cured, etc. I am very pleased with how my wraparound patio turned out and how well the water drains away from my house without any standing water. Very professional and would hire again."

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Most retaining wall installations can be finished in one to three weeks, but the timeline varies based on factors like wall size and material. The local climate and major weather events, such as storms or flooding, can also extend the project's timeline, as can any holds ups in the permitting process.

Costs depend on material type, labor rates, and additional features like decorative finishes or reinforcement.

The longevity of flood walls depends on how they were constructed, but most wood, gravel, and cement flood walls last 10 years. While aluminum flood walls may cost far more initially, they can be a good investment as they can last decades and will not be damaged by exposure to the elements.

Sand and gravel are two suitable options for filling behind a retaining wall. If you’re building your own retaining wall, you’ll complete this part of the process—known as backfilling—after you finish laying the blocks. Make sure not to skip it—otherwise, you could wind up with drainage issues, which can cause your retaining wall to collapse.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.
