"Horrible. We scheduled a service call on May 31st, 2022. The tech that was sent out was supposed to check the air ducts integrity (for leaks) which was not done. The tech did not have the appropriate tools to check duct leaks. The tech inspected the AC condenser's overall integrity and cleaned the unit. The tech mentioned that everything on the outside looked good and verified refrigerant agent levels were okay. The tech also replaced the capacitor per their recommendation. I spent $560.00 for the service call. TWO days later we found the AC unit's pipe line frozen. Verified with a second opinion that AC unit coils have a leak and that the unit must be replaced. We did not have any issues with our ac system prior service with this company."

Here’s how AC professionals will clean your AC coils:

  1. Unplug the AC unit or turn off the breaker to the unit in your circuit breaker box.

  2. Remove the faceplate.

  3. Spray a vacuum hose attachment or compressed air can to remove debris, dust, dirt, and grime.

  4. Use a soft-bristled fin comb to remove stubborn caked-on debris.

  5. Use the vacuum hose to suck up any extra debris.

  6. Take a coil-safe cleaning solution and spray it onto the coils. Try to choose a no-rinse solution.

  7. Let the solution sit for at least 15 minutes.

  8. Gently wipe away loosened grime and debris with a microfiber cloth.

  9. Reattach the faceplate, plug in your AC system, or turn the breaker back on.

HVAC systems last around 10 to 30 years. If you complete the recommended maintenance, you can expect your system to reach its maximum life span. The life span also depends on the type of HVAC system. Heat pumps last about 10 to 15 years, AC units last about 15 to 20 years, and furnaces last around 15 to 30 years. Boilers have the longest life span, as they last around 20 to 30 years.

Yes, through thorough cleaning and inspection, optimizing functionality, and reducing energy use.

The DOE is phasing out AC units with SEER ratings that fall below 14 or 15. The exact minimum rating depends on your region. In the northern United States, new ACs must have a minimum SEER rating of 14, though you can still buy and install older systems as long as they were compliant when they were manufactured. In the southern and southwestern United States, you cannot buy or install older air conditioners with lower SEER ratings. The minimum rating is between 14.5 and 15, depending on the power of the unit.

You can protect your air conditioner in the winter by turning off the power at the thermostat and performing routine HVAC maintenance in the spring. Regular maintenance, cleaning, and repair of your AC unit helps protect it and extend its life span. If you have a window AC unit, remove it from the window and store it in a dry place during the winter. Window units cannot withstand freezing temperatures. Keeping them in your window also allows cold air to seep into your home.
