Customers say: Quality work

"I hired Lamp Property Development to build my office building for me. They did a great job on the design! They also did a great job on the construction, from the ground up. I was so pleased with Matthew Lamp and his crew. They were professional and had everything done on time. I was very happy with the entire experience and would highly recommend them for whatever project you are about to undertake. I used them for several projects and they are my number one go to contractor."

"Malcolm and his crew were professional and did a great job. He actually came back to finish a small portion of the job (I have learned most don't, sadly). He is honest, helpful and diligent. You just don't find this very often. I love my windows, my shutters look fabulous; I've gotten messages left in my mailbox asking me where I got them. We're planning to use him again this year and look forward to it."

"It went really well. The technicians gave me an excellent overview of what needed to be done so that we could work w/permitting, as inspectors, and our local electric company. In short they were knowledgeable, considerate, and really easy to work with."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Not all porch columns are load-bearing, though they can be. Some porch columns are simply decorative. There are ways to identify a load-bearing column, like looking for visible seams and a foundation. Also, check to see if the column directly enters the ground. In some porch installations, a contractor will excavate a hole to install a column into the earth along with a buried cement base for stability.

Costs depend on desk size, labor, included features like drawers or motorized height adjustments, and required wall anchoring.

Costs depend on furniture type, size, complexity, and whether additional modifications are needed.

Removing a load-bearing wall is best handled by professionals. However, if you have the skill set and decide to DIY the project, you will still need at least one additional person to assist you. Aside from helping with demolition, you'll need another hand to install the new support beam.

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.
