"Work accomplished earlier than expected, they called with earlier appointment when someone cancelled. Showed up as scheduled and did an excellent job. Use a tarp in front of fireplace to prevent getting carpet dirty. Justin and his new helper, Justin, both professionals."

"Once I had bought the deal on Angie's List, I received instructions via email to call Frontpoint directly to set it up. I called and spoke to Oscar, and the process was very smooth.  The email contained some order codes that let Oscar know exactly what I had purchased, and setup was quick from there.  He ran a credit check to confirm eligibility (it's a 3-yr contract), then had me set my intial PIN, Safety words, address, and credit card for billing.  That was it.
It took 2 days to assemble my hardware package, and 2 more days for it to arrive.  The sensors, control panel, and manuals came assembled in a really nice flip-top display box.  Everything was numbered in order, like "do this first," etc.  The sensors were all numbered for easy reference.  All batteries were included.   It was really slick.
Setup of the hardware took about a half-hour; I was easily able to do it myself.  The sensors are peel-and-stick; deciding which doors and windows to target took longer than the actual installation.  The fire/smoke alarm is peel-and-stick.  The motion sensor is sitting right on our fireplace mantel.  I hung the control panel using included screws.  Everything is wireless; once the system was turned on, all the sensors were automatically detected.  Did I mention how slick it is?
I called Frontpoint at 10pm, just as they were clothing, and the assiciate was nonetheless very polite.  Activation took minutes.  He walked me through different methods of arming and disarming, and could see my system was responding correctly.  He gave me a 2hr delay in police activation so I could get used to the system without accidentally tripping it.  He even gave me the rest of the month (~5 days) free, and said billing would start at the first of the next month!  I checked my bill, and it's legit.  Again, very slick.
Once it was up and running, I got an email to set up my online account.  The website, contracted through alarm.com, is really nice. You can custom-name your sensors, set up email/text alerts, create additional users/PINs ... really nice.  I downloaded the App for Android, and it's also very nice.  You can arm/disarm and see the recent sensor history.  This, combined with the wireless setup, is WAY MORE than any of my friends have through ADT, Broadview, etc.  My system is the belle of the ball, at lower cost ($99 equipment, no setup fee, $42/mo, killer web functionality, DIY expansion).
So far, the first month has been great.  We left town for a week right after installing it, and gave someone one of the keyfobs so they could check on the house, and their own User PIN for emergencies (which we can deactivate any time).  They had no problems, and the alerts let us know exactly when they came and went (the keyfobs are labeled in the alerts).   The piece of mind is PRICELESS.  I'm glad we set this up before an incident, instead of after.
I hear that additional Z-wave sensors are very easy to add, and available through third parties as well as Frontpoint.  Additional window sensors, water leak sensors, pipe freeze sensors, you name it.  Even home-automation sensors, which can be controlled via the web and phone apps!  I look forward to getting some and trying them out.
Great job (so far) Frontpoint!

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

High humidity accelerates mortar deterioration, making masonry repairs highly necessary. Heavy rainfall increases water intrusion risks, so fireplace service must include a thorough waterproofing assessment. The Gulf storm season causes sudden chimney damage and disrupts scheduling. Because the area experiences mild winters, demand surges in October and November. Prolonged warm seasons in Covington also allow organic debris to accumulate in flues, requiring prompt removal to ensure safe draft performance.

Helpful?

A routine cleaning takes one to three hours in a single visit. Flashing repairs and chimney cap replacements take one full day. Masonry repairs require extended curing times due to the high humidity in LA, requiring you to wait at least three days before using the fireplace. Gas conversions add several weeks for permit inspections. During peak fall season, expect lead times of three to six weeks for fireplace service.

Helpful?

A major mistake is skipping annual inspections and allowing humidity to cause severe moisture damage between visits. Homeowners also overlook water intrusion, treating fireplace service solely as a combustion safety check. Failing to secure permits for gas conversions creates major legal complications. Finally, hiring unlicensed contractors during the busy fall season in Covington leads to substandard work. Always verify state licenses to ensure your home remains safe and secure.

Helpful?

After completing fireplace service, inspect your chimney for moisture intrusion. Covington experiences high humidity, making repaired mortar joints and flashing vulnerable to water damage. Schedule a visual check before the short winter burning season begins. Verify that your chimney cap remains secure after any Gulf storms. Finally, document all service records for your homeowner's insurance, as Louisiana insurers require proof of maintenance when processing storm or fire claims.

Helpful?

Before starting fireplace service, verify local permit requirements for structural repairs or gas line modifications. Always hire state-licensed contractors to ensure compliance and protect against liability. Schedule your project in August or September to beat the fall rush in Covington. Assess your property for recent storm damage, and check your chimney for federally protected migratory birds. Disturbing an active nest is illegal, so confirm the flue is clear beforehand.
