"I highly recommend Al Sanchez Construction for their exceptional work to stabilize our chimney and foundation. David, the owner, was actively involved and regularly checked on the progress of the project, which gave us great confidence. David also offered his expertise to address an ongoing moisture issue impacting my wood floors. The quality of their work was amazing! Everything was completed in a timely manner, and the work crew was professional and competent. We couldn't be more satisfied with the results."

"Our driveway was broken and uneven due to tree roots, and was a fall hazard. Likewise our path to the back door was too narrow to use safely. Ernesto and Jay designed a paver walkway to the back door that was attractive and met our accessibility needs. Each of the workmen knew their jobs and worked well as team. Our picket fence had to be moved to pour concrete. The guys moved the fence so that we could still let our little dog out in the back yard. Ernesto and Jay were here frequently to check on the progress of the work and let us know what the schedule was. Our neighbors are complimenting the work and asking which company we used. Powerhouse Concrete is a professional company that does great work. Suzanne R."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Be cautious of quotes that lack references from recent Covington projects or fail to address local soil and drainage challenges. Unusually low estimates may indicate subpar materials or shortcuts. Avoid contractors who rush payment, provide vague material lists, or don’t specify weather contingency plans. Reliable professionals will detail their drainage approach, list specific materials, and offer a clear written warranty for their masonry work.

Helpful?

In Covington, unexpected costs often stem from the need for soil stabilization or additional drainage solutions, as local clay soils can shift and retain water. Homeowners may also encounter extra charges for tree root removal, utility line mapping, or debris disposal in older neighborhoods. Permit requirements and weather-related delays can further impact timelines, so it’s wise to clarify all potential contingencies with your contractor upfront.

Helpful?

In Covington, new homeowners should prioritize a thorough foundation assessment due to the region’s shifting clay soils and high humidity. Installing a French drain system is especially effective for managing seasonal downpours. Chimney waterproofing and tuckpointing help prevent moisture intrusion. Adding stone walkways or retaining walls can improve both drainage and curb appeal, while a custom patio enhances outdoor living for Covington’s mild climate.

Helpful?

Covington homeowners are increasingly choosing natural stone veneer, especially limestone, for exterior facades and garden walls. Brick columns and archways remain popular for their Southern charm. Outdoor living upgrades—like fire pits, pizza ovens, and covered patios—are in demand. Permeable pavers and raised planters help manage heavy rainfall, while curved retaining walls and hurricane-resistant masonry are trending for both style and durability.

Helpful?

After masonry work in Covington, inspect and reseal surfaces before hurricane season to guard against moisture. Regularly clear French drains and gutters to prevent blockages. Check mortar joints and stonework each spring for cracks or shifting, especially after heavy storms. Schedule professional cleaning every few years to remove mildew, and document your project with photos and notes for future maintenance or insurance needs.
