Pennington Plumbing Company specialized in new construction for many years, Benny had plumbed well over 600 homes in Northeast Louisiana, before starting to offer remodeling and repair work services. The newest addition to the company is the Chief Whole Home Water Purification Systems for all types of water systems, including well systems. Benny graduated from Bernice High School in 1986. Benny is married to Malissa, and has four children, Ashley, Blake, Jake and Cody Pennington. Benny and Malissa have seven grandkids, Braylen, Anna Grace, Payton, Loreali, Belicia, Isaac and Willow. Benny has always enjoyed working in the plumbing field and working with his hands. An outdoorsman, Benny enjoys hunting, fishing, and camping. Benny also enjoys coaching sports and working with young people. Mr. Pennington loves his family and has taught his sons the meaning of serving the community, because of this we changed our name to Pennington Service Company, LLC in 2012. Handbuilt masonry fireplaces are likely what comes to mind when we think about curling up by the fire at the end of the day. But bricks in the firebox and chimney tend to be heavy, which is not ideal for homes with weak or damaged foundations.

Prefabricated fireboxes come with a full flue and chimney system, significantly reducing the price and installation time. However, if you need to replace the panels down the line, you are locked into the same model or something very similar.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) says that chimneys and their associated elements like fireplaces, vents, or stoves should be cleaned at least once a year before the start of seasonal use. According to the Chimney Safety Institute of America, a chimney should be cleaned when there is 1/8 inch of soot buildup. If there’s more than that, creosote—a flammable byproduct of burning wood—can form and increase the risk of a chimney fire.

Like any other household appliance, electric fireplaces can wear out after about 10 to 20 years. With more frequent use, the parts will wear out quicker, and you may get just 7 to 10 years out of a well-loved electric fireplace. Fortunately, electric fireplaces come with a lower upfront installation cost compared to alternatives like gas, so you can install a replacement for less.

You only need to repoint a chimney every 30 or more years, with some repointing jobs only necessary after several decades. If your chimney’s brickwork looks worn out or crumbly, hire a pro to inspect and repoint the chimney to improve its strength and waterproofing for many years to come.

Clean the stove, chimney, or vent regularly, and schedule annual professional inspections to ensure safety.
