"It all went well. Service people are extremely helpful, professional and competent. The cost was significant, but we found out the furnace in the attic was cracked and could have created a fire or worse. These are the folks you want to have service and install your heating/AC equipment. We of course upgraded to much more efficient units."

"Very expensive service... I was charged 210 dollars for 5-minute reprogramming of my new ecobee4 thermostat. I requested a technician to come to check my Air conditioner as my electric bill was higher compared to the last year.. he found nothing wrong with the system. I suggested to him that it might be the newly installed ecobee4 thermostat. He checked the wiring was good. He found out that it's set up to auxiliary heat as primary and reprogrammed it and charged me 210 dollars without letting me know it will be that expensive prior to the reprogramming... Imagine, 5-minute setup of the thermostat and they charge you 210 dollars.. I will never recommend them to anyone"

"We called Dauenhauer to have someone diagnose low hot water pressure in the kitchen faucet. Nate found a blockage in the tubing but also noticed a leak in the faucet and suggested replacing the faucet along with the tubing. This saved us from needing a second service call in the future. As the faucet is customer supplied, we were able to purchase one based on their recommendation. Nate and Jason returned a day later and were prompt, polite, and efficient. We are pleased with their work and will definitely use Dauenhauer plumbing for all future plumbing needs and recommend them to others."

Mr Cross was very patient when several times conflicts came up and I needed to re-schedule. When we were finally able to work out a date, Mr Cross arrived on time, introduced himself & his son and immediately went to work. After looking at my furnace, we both went under the house and he pointed out issues & explained what needed attention immediately and eventually. Even though Mr Cross was there to evaluate my furnace he was generous with his time and expertise and looked at my central air system as well; telling me where to get more information and how to contact him, when & if I needed him in the future.

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

The primary differences between a heat pump and a boiler are their function and how they produce heat. A heat pump is a versatile system that provides both heating and cooling by moving ambient air and altering its temperature. In contrast, a boiler is solely a heating system, often working with a furnace or AC unit as part of a larger HVAC system. In terms of heat production, a heat pump generates heat more slowly and at a lower temperature, requiring a large convector for distribution. A boiler, however, produces a large amount of high-temperature heat that it emits through smaller radiators.

You can replace baseboard heaters with many other types of HVAC systems, including forced-air furnaces, hydronic heating, and heat pumps. Each one has its advantages and disadvantages, so the best choice for you will depend on your budget, preferences, and the design of your house. If you aren’t sure which option is right for you, ask an HVAC pro for guidance.

Boiler installations and replacements cost between $3,600 to $8,400. Expect to pay around $5,900 on average for a new boiler, including installation. Adding new radiators or heaters to the boiler may include separate costs if you are also upgrading those components, so the final price may be higher. To decrease costs, you can look for local energy rebates for using a boiler and wait until installers are offering discounts for a first-time installation.

Yes. Boilers need water to run without overheating, also known as dry firing. If you run it without a sufficient volume of water, either because of a burst pipe or a leak, you run the risk of damaging your machine or jeopardizing the safety of your home as a whole. When in doubt, shut off your boiler and repair any plumbing issues before turning it back on. Alternatively, consider installing a low-water cutoff (LWCO) before any issues arise. This gadget will protect your boiler by monitoring water levels and automatically shutting it off if it gets too low.

When winter rolls around, and you turn the heat on for the first time in a year, it’s normal to sense a light odor. This could smell a little like burning because some dust has gathered in the heating unit over the warm months and will fade away shortly after. However, there are some smells you should watch out for and take caution around: an egg-like sulfur smell or an electrical burn odor would indicate there’s something wrong. Turn it off and call a professional for maintenance as soon as possible.
