When everything is working together your home will be more comfortable, more efficient and healthier. Our “house as a system” approach ensures that we guide you in making decisions that complement each other. For example, if you were to put in a new heating system this year and then upgrade your insulation next year you might find that the new furnace is now too big because the insulation has lowered your home's heating needs. We consult with you to maximize home upgrades and avoid costly missteps. Making sure that all your home’s systems complement each other will save you money while making you more comfortable. Synergy Home is here to assist you with building new construction homes and upgrading existing homes. In new construction homes, we will work with your contractor to design the most comfortable energy efficient home possible from the ground up. For existing homes, we work directly with you, the homeowner.

"BEWARE of Synergy Home, LLC!! We paid our one-half deposit in October 2018 - over 1 year ago - for installation of solar panels/micro-inverters, radon fan, water heater, and insulation. NO WORK was ever even started, and the owner HAS REFUSED TO REFUND OUR MONEY, even refusing to honor his commitment to abide by the BBB's arbitration decision. We are left with no recourse but civil and/or criminal prosecution. If I could leave a minus star review I would. You do NOT want to do business with this company."

Talon Home Inspections will thoroughly inspect any residential dwelling and provide a complete and comprehensive report of all the major systems and components in your home within 24 hours of any inspection. Our reports are clear, concise, informative, and specific to every house we inspect. They contain photos, drawings and video to make it easier to understand and identify problems and deficiencies within the home and recommendations to prevent future problems. This is especially helpful in areas that are not readily visible like crawlspaces and attics. We are a member of the Better Business Bureau (BBB), American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI), and Kentucky Real Estate Inspectors Association (KREIA). Check out our Media section on Angie's List for a copy of a sample inspection report and agreement.

"I've never met a more skilled and professional inspector who goes above and beyond to provide the best service. I purchased a home in KY and called Carlo the night before to go a full inspection the next morning. He walked me through his procedure and was extremely detailed. Carlo was not afraid to get into all the nooks and crannies of the home. Afterwards he gave me a very detailed inspection report that highlighted issues in the home the owner didn't even know!!! All in all, 10/10 would recommend Carlo to anyone!"

SWAT Environmental has installed over 50,000 radon systems throughout the country. We are America’s largest radon abatement company, and we have more certified technicians on staff than any other competitor. The experienced staff at SWAT Environmental leads the industry in removing radon from homes, schools, apartment buildings, condominiums, commercial and government buildings. SWAT Environmental is a trusted partner of some of the largest real estate firms in the country, and we lead the industry in quality and overall value. All of our technicians go through a rigorous training program that prepares them to make your home or office safe from the dangers of radon. When you have a problem with radon, you can trust the experienced professionals at SWAT Environmental.

"Home buyers beware: SWAT gets business with lower prices than competitors but do not be fooled. Do not go through with a home closing if the sellers have hired SWAT. Our experience: The radon mitigation work performed by SWAT has been unsuccessful in mitigating the radon in our home which was part of the closing. Since we became owners of the property SWAT have installed a second sub-slab system, added a crawl space vapor barrier, added two additional “taps” to the two sub-slab systems, and changed fans on both systems. Radon piping was visible in every quadrant of the basement; the impact on the finished basement’s aesthetic was significant –and the systems looked very sloppy and cobbled together. Also they chose a location of the first system inches from master bedroom window which was unacceptable for the noise. Despite all this effort the radon readings were still high, 10-13 pCi/L. SWAT concluded the persistent radon levels were due to a “cold joint” in the foundation of the basement, which is an expansion joint (gap) between the concrete slab and the concrete block walls. This cold joint runs along the perimeter of the basement’s outside walls. They recommended sealing off this joint with a flexible yet impermeable material. In order to access the cold joint, the basement walls’ finishing would need to be removed. Before we took this drastic action we decided to get a second opinion from another radon company who is locally owned/operated. They assessed the mitigation systems installed by SWAT and identified several problems including inadequately sealed suction points, pipe joints not glued - see pics, inadequate suction pits dug under the slab, and illegally wired fans. The company indicated they have replaced “dozens” of systems installed by SWAT locally. We have since had work done by the other company and radon levels have been successfully mitigated."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

You should have a professional test for radon every two to five years. A good rule of thumb is to get testing done every five years if you’ve never had an issue before and every two years if you have. You may also want to schedule testing if you notice symptoms of radon exposure or if you do intermittent DIY radon testing and notice changes in your levels between tests. If you have an active radon monitor, you can schedule testing if you notice levels increasing over time.

A DIY kit can lessen the sting that comes with paying for a professional assessment, but these comprehensive tests are true lifesavers. Inspectors are more likely to catch all of the pollutants and hazards in your air. Plus, you’ll still need a professional to verify and act on your DIY test results.

Some kits don’t include tests for certain air pollutants or only detect their presence, but not their levels (i.e., mold spores). If you’re willing to shell out money for a DIY kit, it’s usually better to stretch your budget slightly higher for a more detailed assessment.

No level of radon is technically safe, but because it’s everywhere—even in the air outside—it’s impossible to avoid entirely. Instead, the Environmental Protection Agency encourages taking preventative measures if the levels of radon in your home rise above 2 pCi/L. (For reference, the average radon level in homes across the United States is 1.3 pCi/L.

Costs depend on property size, test types, and additional services like mold sampling.

It is worthwhile to get radon testing done, especially if you haven’t in the past and don’t have active radon monitoring set up in your home. According to the American Lung Association, radon is a potential issue in all states, and testing is the best way to determine if it’s a current problem in your home. Radon testing includes professional tests that determine ongoing radon levels in your property, and it usually includes a mitigation protocol to help you decide what measures to take to protect your home and household members.
