"Margaret’s Moving and Storage did a fantastic job of moving our furniture from Louisville to Shelbyville! The team was very polite and a prompt at starting when they said they would. They took care in making sure they didn’t scratch the wood flooring at both places! If you want someone to move your furniture the way you would personally move it, then be sure to give Margaret’s Moving and Storage a call!"

"They responded to my request for a quote immediately and came out for the piano move on the Sunday of 4th of July weekend no extra charge. They did an excellent job and it wasn’t easy. I would definitely hire again and highly recommend them!!"

Small jobs welcome

"Paid for 2 movers for 2 hours to move 6 large items. Male and female arrived an hour after expected time. Male moved all items by himself. The female didn?t help at all and it took 3 hours for the male to move everything by himself. The company contact did not charge me for the 3rd hour and price matched another mover. The movers were very nice and personable, but job could have been done reasonably and efficiently if they both worked."

Piano Moving questions, answered by experts

You can move a pool table without taking it apart only if you’re moving it a short distance, like from one room to another, and with the help of several people or a professional moving company. But if you’re moving the pool table from one home to another, experts strongly advise you not to move it without taking it apart. If you leave it in one piece, you could risk not only your own personal safety, but also risk damage to the pool table itself. The bumpers could need to be realigned and the slate may have to be re-leveled if you try to move a pool table without taking it apart. In this case, the risk usually doesn’t outweigh the reward.

Moving a one-bedroom apartment yourself can range from $150 to more than $1,500, depending on distance, the amount of belongings you have, and more. On the other hand, the cost of hiring movers for a one-bedroom apartment is around $1,850 on average. You’ll save money with the DIY route, but the process is much more labor-intensive and time-consuming.

Most professional movers can provide a wide range of moving-related services, and you’ll need to pick and choose which ones you want to use. Examples of common services offered include the following:

  • Organizing and packing your belongings

  • Protecting delicate items with bubble wrap or other protective equipment

  • Moving your belongings and furniture out of your old home

  • Moving your belongings into your new home within a certain distance

  • Unpacking your belongings in the new location

  • Moving heavy items, like pianos

  • Moving your vehicles

  • Storage if your new home isn’t ready

Before hiring a moving company to help you with your move, there are a few things you will want to ask, including:

  • Is there anything your company won’t move?

  • Does workers’ compensation cover the crew?

  • Will you disassemble and reassemble the furniture?

  • Are there packing restrictions?

  • Can you guarantee my delivery date?

  • Can you provide references?

  • What do you charge extra for?

  • What is your cancellation policy?

To treat office moving costs as capital expenses, which means recording them as assets, they must meet certain rules: they need to be essential for the business to keep running, directly related to the move, reasonable, and documented properly with invoices and contracts. These costs can include packing, transportation, and setting up the new office. Once these expenses are capitalized, they're treated like assets on the books and gradually accounted for over time through depreciation or amortization.
