Customers say: True professional

"Kolors by Kara are the best painters I've ever used. Found them thru friends that raved about them. Since then I have referred them to many friends and they never dissapoint. They painted my entire home. The trim work and cabinet painting were perfect. They are very particular. Patching and painting my walls--they are flawless. They are prompt and professional. I will use them again and continue to refer. They are the bomb"

"It went unbelievably well, and thanks, Skip and Robin! Because of the extensive damage the prior tenants inflicted - I can't come up with a better word - on the walls, doors, trim, ... everywhere! All 1400 square feet of this house needed to be repaired and painted. The job started promptly, was finished promptly, and Skip and Robin have a lot of expertise and are super easy to work with. The final job looked wonderful - so good in fact, that my realtor asked me who did the painting! Not only would I use them again, I have already done so."

"Santos, Kevin and the entire J & S team completed my project in one day and it looks amazing! My daughter purchased her first home (a one bedroom, one bath condo) and it desperately needed a facelift. J &S definitely took care of that for us. They painted her living/dining room; bedroom; bathroom; and kitchen (including ceilings and trim) in one day! They are truly amazing! If I ever need anything painted, I will contact them in a heartbeat. I will also recommend them to all of my family and friends who may need any kind of painting needs. If you have a project that needs painting, don’t hesitate to call J & S Painting. They are professional, kind, and prompt. They’re great!!!"

Painting questions, answered by experts

Shadowbox fence maintenance depends on the material. But for wood shadowbox fences, maintenance typically includes annual cleaning to prevent mold growth, resealing or staining every two to three years, and promptly replacing any damaged or rotted boards. Vinyl fencing, on the other hand, typically only requires annual cleaning with a hose to maintain its appearance.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood, as this helps prevent the surface from cracking. However, it is crucial to wait for the wood to dry out completely from the chemical treatment process before applying a finish. If the wood is still wet, the paint will not adhere properly. The drying time can range from weeks to six months. To test if the wood is ready, drip some water onto a board. If the water is absorbed, the wood is dry enough for painting or staining. If the water beads up on the surface, it needs more time to dry. You can build with the wood while it's still wet, but you must wait for it to dry before painting.

A properly applied coat of stain will last between 3 and 8 years, depending on your climate. If you live in a place where your fence experiences a lot of moisture or high heat, your stain will last for a shorter period than in more temperate conditions. We recommend reapplying stain every 3 to 5 years to keep your wood in good condition.

You can weather a new wood fence by applying vinegar with steel wool as a way to fade some of the coloring. You may also find it easier to stain your entire fence a new color instead of trying to get newer fence boards to match an older one.

Applying a sealer or topcoat after staining wood is highly recommended, though not always strictly required. A sealer protects the wood from moisture, UV rays, and weather-related issues, which is especially important for outdoor surfaces like decks and fences. It also enhances the stain's durability, prevents fading over time, and gives the wood a cleaner, more professional-looking finish. For some indoor applications, a sealer may not be necessary, depending on the type of stain used and the level of protection needed. It's always best to check the stain manufacturer's recommendations and consider the wood's intended use and exposure when deciding whether to apply a sealer.
