Our faux leather sectional was damaged in the move. The damage consisted of at least a half-dozen three to four inch long vertical scratches to two of the cushions, all near the top about where your head would normally rest.
We contacted Mr. Neutz about this and he offered to come out and repair the damage, I assumed with some sort of leather and vinyl repair kit, to which we agreed.
He did come to the house to repair the damage. I didn’t see what he used as I was not home, but my wife said he used a blow-dryer at some point which is typical of the aforementioned repair kits.
It looked pretty bad when I got home, however, within two days of his “repair” the surface of the cushions had cracked and lifted from the fabric to which it was bonded around the entire circumference of the areas on which he worked. This left a multitude of patches about the size of a hand or more with large cracks, gaps, and tears exposing the underlying fabric. He had personally managed to turn our expensive sectional into a worthless eyesore.
I contacted Mr. Neutz again, who continually spoke over me trying to shut me down and dominate the conversation while insisting that the reason for the damage was because I had purchased an inferior product. All the while ignoring the fact that the rest of the couch still looks brand new. The fact remains that his movers had scratched it, then he trashed it with a shoddy repair. Ironically, I was ready to just live with the scratches and let this pass, but I now cannot ignore that Mr. Neutz’s and ONLY Mr. Neutz’s actions turned our expensive couch into a piece of trash, and for this he accepts no culpability. He remains adamant that he did not cause any damage because, “the Internet says that’s supposed to happen to fox leather”. (No, really. "Fox" leather.)
Bottom line, our formerly beautiful sectional is now ruined, the cause is immediately attributable to Mr. Neutz’s incompetence, and he refuses to make it right.
On moving day (out of my old house), the movers were about an hour late, but they let me know ahead of time they were running behind schedule. The 5 movers that worked the move were courteous, clean, and careful with my belongings. The entire experience was great.
My items were stored at Neutz's warehouse for about 8 months. The only issue was Neutz was unable to find my lawn mower initially, but after a few weeks, it was located and I was contacted. Thankfully, I didn't need it at the time.
When my items were delivered and moved into my new house, a different crew of 5 movers performed the work. They were as courteous and professional as the first crew. We had just built a new house and there was a lot of mud around the property. The crew was extremely careful around the mud and did a great job keeping my house spotless. I was impressed with how hard this crew worked. They were fast, efficient, and clean.
Again, very pleased with Neutz's services.
When they showed up, they were very unprofessional and reeked of marijuana. I fully understand that moving is a difficult job and breaks are needed, but throughout the day they were talking on their cell phones, resting continuously, and later requested a third person (who would have costed extra) to help get the work done . On multiple occasions we couldn't find them to ask questions about the process as they either disappeared or went on long breaks elsewhere.
While moving they not only broke my table, but also treated my items poorly. When I moved in we were able to easily move our fabric couch through the door, however they decided (without asking first) to move the couch over our metal balcony. At one point they almost dropped it over the balcony, and my friend ended up helping them move it. We asked them if they could move the bigger items first so that we could all save on time, however when doing this, they left multiple materials/pieces behind and did not take the time to put anything back together. When they first started they were only putting one box on the dolly and taking them one at a time. We finally asked them to start moving the bigger items due to the time constraints. At one point, they had forced so many large items through the doorway that the hinges had been pulled out of the door jamb. They said this was something that they wouldn't fix and that I was on my own. My friend ended up going to the hardware store to get materials to fix the door. For another example of their carelessness, they took apart our dining room table (which came to us from the furniture store already put together so the legs have never been removed) and left the legs and screws in the old apartment whereas the tabletop was taken to the new apartment. We have yet to try to reattach the legs after retrieving them today (April 1st) so I am uncertain if they will go back on. Their website mentions that it is handy to mark/color code your boxes, which I did. Rather than putting the boxes in the correct, denoted rooms they piled all of the boxes into the den. My friend had told them that any unmarked boxes could go into the den but not ALL of the boxes.
When they told me the cost for moving everything, it was almost $300 more than what we had originally talked about, this did not include the $40 gas charge they mentioned when the arrived.
I was extremely disappointed with their service as they were unprofessional, clearly high, and did not care about the job they were doing. I heard more about their personal lives and personal problems they were having then seeing them do quality work. I am currently finishing the work they didn't complete so that we may move on time.
UPDATE AS OF 4/1/2015: I have since gone back to the old apartment and hired a different moving company to help with the boxes that were left behind. Edward Neutz Sons & Daughters Moving- NAVL had started the move at 9:45 AM yesterday and didn't finish until 7:30 PM and still wasn't able to move all of my belongings. The two movers continuously took breaks and called the office to request a third person, and complained to each other (while I was within earshot) about not receiving a third person to help. When the presented me the final bill for $776 (of which I have paid $600). They initially told me that they were going to work straight through and not take a lunch so that I could tip them for timely service. We all left the old apartment at the same time but they arrived 45 minutes after we did and said that they had stopped at Taco Bell for lunch. I did end up leaving them a tip ($30 each) with the payment I made because my friend said that the tip may tempt them to get my things off of the truck promptly without further damage.
While unpacking today I have found several items either broken/damaged or missing. I gave pointers both to Ed and the guys on a few of my more delicate items, such as my three origami shelves which ended up being overloaded which dented them while being transported. The shelves fold up for transportation, which I mentioned, but the guys said they wanted to use them for storage during transportation but they put heavy items on top of them, despite the fact that I told them they had a weight limit, which contributed to the damage that was done to them.
Something else that I found to be unprofessional was that when the guys first arrived they looked around and said that they wouldn't be able to finish in the four hours that were promised but they could "cut us a deal". They said that if I called the office and canceled the move through them the guys would take care of everything for the price that we were promised initially but would do it on the side, all we had to do was rent a truck. My friend and I talked this over but ultimately decided against it in case of damages/injury we wanted to have the actual company there to cover these things. I was surprised that an offer like this would come up to begin with.
As of right now, I am still unpacking so it's possible I may come across some of the items that are currently missing but I am still concerned over the overall experience.
"To Whom It May Concern: We have reviewed the complaint submitted to Angie’s List regarding contacted work with (Member name removed). Attached is the Bill of Lading Contract with the written estimate as provided on the phones to (Member name removed). The Bill of Lading Contract must be signed by the customer prior to any engagement of work so that everyone understands the terms, conditions, and charges. The Contract must be signed at the end indicating the condition of goods received by the customer. (Member name removed) Signed the Contract twice and is fully obligated to the Contract, its terms, conditions, and charges. We are willing to make a counter offer to (Member name removed) but only if we receive a satisfactory rating. Firstly, attached is the items provided by (Member name removed) during her phone estimate. The Amount of items he indicated equates to 702 cft or 4,914lbs of household goods. A moving can will handle on average 10,000lbs of household goods and therefore she was estimated to load and unload half of a moving truck. (Member name removed) was instructed during the phone estimate that she should get at least 3 competitive estimates. She was informed that the State of Kentucky requires by law the movers charge for actual hours worked at set rates such that on move day if more items are required to be moved or items are not properly packed, or conditions require extra time, it is built into the rates. On move day, the movers informed (Member name removed) prior to engagement of services that the move would require more time than 4.0 hours. The apartment was filled with many items, china cabinet and side tables had not been packed and she was not prepared to be moved. (Member name removed), then, called the office to request that the entire move be done, regardless of the hours, for the estimated cost. Erin told (Member name removed) that the movers must charge for their hours of work and she could cancel the move without any penalty. At this point, (Member name removed) understood the contract and its charges. She decided to engage services by signing the Bill of Lading Contract. The movers actually loaded and unloaded a full moving truck taking the majority of items and leaving behind items not able to fit. It takes roughly 8-9 hours for 2 movers to load and unload a full 26’ moving van. A 2nd floor apartment, which is the case, would take longer. The movers finished the full truck in 8.25 hrs, very acceptable, with 2 hours of total breaks taken off. (Member name removed) charges totaled S776.15 with a discount. (Member name removed) only paid $600.00 and still owes S176.15 plus fees. As a counter offer, we are willing to write off the $176.15 plus fees owed by (Member name removed) to bring the Contract into compliance. This is a large discount since (Member name removed) is paying $140 for an additional 4.25 hrs of work by the movers. Upon Contact compliance, (Member name removed) may submit a damage claim for items. Once received, an adjuster will be sent to inspect and assess damage according to the Declaration of Value Agreement attached with the Bill of Lading Contract. Sincerely, Edward D. Neutz"
The owner then stated that since we waived the additional insurance they offered at time of service that they weren't liable for the claim. I explained to him that his insurance contract is written to only cover the items being moved which has nothing to do with damages of this nature. He then proceeded to curse at me over the phone and told me they weren't liable. We are pursuing a claim with the company's auto insurance as well as filing papers to initiate a case in small claims court. Other than the accidental damage caused by the truck doors, the rest of the move went smoothly and the two actual moving guys were great.
I do not recommend this company based on the unprofessional interactions with the owner, as well as his lack of responsibility for damages caused to our property.
"We are very sorry that Mr. [Member name] felt the company was not being forthcoming. The movers indicated that the stand alone light was loose and the top of the light came off the base. The movers simply put the light back on the base. We did schedule a certified electrician to reattach the light. Mr. [Member name] declined the use of electrician and settled for $100.00. We believe this complaint has been resolved."
