Customers say: True professional

"Mario and his team were excellent. When they arrived they started to work immediately removing the old bushes, trimming existing plants, clearing the beds, adding new plants/bushes , mulch and planting grass seeds. They even fixed a part of my brick wall that was missing some stones. They did a great job!"

"They graded my front yard so they can level, lay topsoil and grass seed. They did a great job. I plan to have them come out next spring to discuss plant design and bed installation."

"It went great. He came up with a great design. They had themes cleaned up in no time. He came in $1,000. less than another bid from Creech's for the same work. Did some mulching at no charge, providing the mulch and having his guys spread it. Even replaced the shovel the first group stole with a band new one. I love my wall and people who visit, just rave about the work and the way it truned out."

"Dave did excellent concrete work for us across multiple properties, including a full driveway replacement and parking area at Maple Park, as well as a shed pad, parking pad, and sidewalk at our Stettinius property. The quality of his work was solid, clean, and well-finished. He communicated clearly throughout the process, showed up when he said he would, and handled each project professionally from start to finish. The sites were left neat, and everything was completed as discussed without surprises. We’ve been very happy with the results and would absolutely use Dave again for future concrete projects. Highly recommend him to anyone needing reliable, high-quality concrete work. We will be using him for other projects as well."

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

They prevent soil erosion, add flat space, and enhance property aesthetics.

Most railroad tie retaining walls have a life span of 20 to 30 years, though you may need to replace your wall sooner if it’s repeatedly exposed to heavy rain, runoff, and excess moisture. Railroad ties are typically treated with creosote, which makes them much more durable than untreated wood. Though they last longer, they don’t last forever. For the most longevity, make sure your retaining wall has a sturdy base and steel reinforcements. You should also install drainage to direct water away from the wall.

If you don’t backfill a retaining wall—either at all or adequately enough—the wall won’t drain well, and water will be able to pass through it. Poor drainage will lead to a warped wall or a buildup of hydrostatic pressure, which can eventually collapse your retaining wall. If you have particularly sloped land, consult a structural engineer to ensure your hardscaping is adding value to your home.

Small retaining walls still require a foundation of some kind, typically a concrete footing. This helps to ensure the wall is structurally sound and prevents the ground from shifting over time, especially during those winter freeze/thaw cycles. The footing helps spread the weight of the wall and the load it carries over a larger area of the ground, thus assisting with stability. This is true of small retaining walls, larger rock garden walls, and the like.

Rebar is a steel support that goes inside concrete to prevent structural damage over time. Concrete is susceptible to impact, weight, and tension. By inserting rebar into the concrete during the installation, you can help extend its lifespan and avoid hazardous situations where the foundation of your home gives way to tensile forces.
