"I hired Phillips Waterproofing and Concrete for a sump pump and moisture panel installation, and it was a complete nightmare. The work was sloppy and unprofessional: the corners of the moisture panels were left curved, concrete wasn?t poured to the walls, and the sump pump pipe was installed in front of my kitchen cabinets with only a thin, choppy, unfinished pour. I paid over $2,000 for them to stain the concrete, but they never completed the job despite multiple scheduled appointments. They now ignore calls and messages entirely, and both the owner, Kevin Phillips, and son Dylan, have full voicemail boxes. To make matters worse, the original problem?backflow in my half bath?was not resolved, and my home flooded again just weeks after their installation. Because of their negligence, I?ve been forced to spend additional money pursuing legal action to get my money returned. The contractor will then excavate around the wall, if necessary, measure the opening—allowing for additional space to fit and level the door, and then cut the doorway out. They will likely install a steel lintel as a header over the door for support. Once the doorway is cut out, they’ll demolish the concrete using sledge hammers and masonry chisels, clean up the surrounding concrete, and seal around the door with masonry mortar. 

There are a few ways you can save money on concrete disposal, including hiring a company that specializes in the service. While you’ll pay for the labor, professional removal companies can save you money on dumping fees if they can recycle or sell the old concrete. If possible, you can also do your own concrete demolition, which can cut down on labor costs. Paying for haul-away service only, you could save between $1.50 and $5.50 per square foot of concrete instead of paying for demolition and removal.

Removing a concrete slab is challenging and physically demanding. The job becomes even more complex and taxing if the concrete is thicker than 4 inches. You can use a sledgehammer and pry bar to remove the concrete off a patio or sidewalk, creating cracks in the concrete and removing the pieces. If the concrete is a larger area, such as a driveway, hiring a pro with the training and skills to use a jackhammer is often best.
