I selected Raatz to install my fence from several bids. They weren’t the cheapest but the estimator seemed to be very knowledgeable and made some good suggestions. I knew my yard with slopes and rocky areas would not be easy so I went with the “experts”. They started on Monday April 3rd, the next day they did what they could with the rain. No one showed up on Wednesday so I called and was told they started another project and would finish mine on Friday. I let them know I was disappointed that they did not communicate the plan to me and that another project had been started while mine waited. They got the crew back out that afternoon and all was complete except my double gate on the side of the house. The guys who had installed the fence were pretty good at this point. They installed the two standard five-foot gates that had been provided and there was a 16 inch gap under the side of one gate and the gate was that much taller than the panel next to it. I said surely this is not how it is done on a slope. The installer said no, sloped gates should have been ordered and the estimator should have known that. I said then that’s what it needs to be. He said he thought they had all the info they needed but there may be someone by to double check measurements. No one offered to do anything temporary so we could use the fence for our dogs in the meantime. We got wire fencing and cable ties and put it in place ourselves. I assumed the gates were on order. It was a week later when the estimator called to tell me they would order the gates but it would cost me $350 each and it would take two and a half weeks to come in. I don't know why he waited a week to call me. I asked if my yard or the design changed since he wrote the estimate. He said no. I said then why would I have to pay extra for what should have been part of the original bid. He said I would at least have to pay freight and I said nope. He said he would talk to the boss. I said I was expecting it to be finished as soon as possible. He did ask if we needed anything temporary so we could use the fence and I said we had already taken care of it. Literally months went by – two to be exact and no contact. Meanwhile, every time we cut the grass we have to cut the cable ties for our temporary gate and then put everything back in place. Our puppy was much bigger now and we had to add a second layer of wire fencing to keep him in. This wasn’t enough as he could pull it down and jump over. I called Raatz and talked to the receptionist. She said she did not know what was going on but someone would call me that afternoon. No call. No call the next day or the next. We had to go to Lowes and purchase two six-foot fence panels and cable tie them in to the gate area to keep our dog in. This was an additional cost of us of $125. At this point I’m contacting another fence company and had them out to quote finishing the fence because of no communication from Raatz. Now it’s July and I get a call from Dave who says he is calling to arrange a time to install the gate. I said well that’s great but we are going to talk about why it took so long and no communication to the point I had engaged another company to finish their work. He clearly did not want to hear my concerns. He said to me and I quote, “It stinks to be you but I’m just trying to get this scheduled so we can get done and get paid. We are only breaking even now since we had to pay $650 each for these gates. He acted like it was my fault and they were doing some kind of special favor for me instead of doing what the original estimate specified. I explained our extra cost to get panels to keep the dog in. He said they would have come out and put something temporary in place, all I had to do was call. I said oh really, I did call and could not get a call back. I also mentioned there were some post caps missing and he said he would make sure the guys walked the fence and took care of anything missing. The gates got installed. The gates are barely adjusted for the slope, they made a big adjustment in the adjoining panel and we had to put stones underneath to keep the little dog from getting out. They did not provide or put on the missing post caps. I had to call and go get the caps myself and put them on. All in all, it was tough terrain and they did mostly a good job. Some areas I feel like, as fence experts, they should have been able to do better. I should not have had to incur costs of temporary fencing or deal with a project that took over three months (July 10th) to complete, my dog getting out, getting parts to finish myself, getting a quote for the gate when they wouldn’t get back to me. Without a doubt, I would not use them again. Dave had a chance to apologize but instead he choose to say “stinks to be you” and act like I should just be grateful that they were absorbing the cost for the gate they designed in the first place.

Good. Had some concerns over how the main gate appeared after install. Raatz was very responsive and made sure we were happy with the end result. Actually made 2 more "fixes".

They ran later than scheduled and did not call. They also tore up my yard working in the mud and did not address situation. They did good job on installation but we're lacking in proffessionalism.

Planning and build was great. They were very responsive and the fence build happened exactly on schedule. The only issue was they broke a couple of custom step-stones driving a small front-loader into the yard. Here's where the trouble starts. Back in July, the back gate post got very wobbly and the gate wouldn't always close properly. This was a real problem because our dog escaped several times because of it. I've been calling Raatz since July trying to get them to come fix it and it's just been a parade of surly and unhelpful people. They say they'll call and don't. They say they're putting us on the schedule and don't. They won't tell me when they're going to come. *Update* They finally sent someone over on 9/15 (first phone call was 7/28) to fix the gate. Unfortunately, I see no evidence of digging or resetting the post and it's just as wobbly as before. Not sure if they went to the wrong house or what happened. Anyway, I give up. Worst experience ever. Stay far far away.

The work was done reasonably well for the price quoted. There were three issues. They installed the release on the wrong side of the gate so a dog could open it from the inside. When they received the fencing from the manufacturer, they didn't check the order until the day they were supposed to install the fence. Then they discovered the manufacturer had sent the wrong color so they had to have the manufacturer ship the order again and they rescheduled the installation almost 2 weeks after the original install date. When the installers were done, they left several tools, including power tools by the side of the house. I had to call the office to have them come retrieve their tools.

Raatz installed four board fence with wooden posts set in concrete, with dog restraint wire fence between the boards.

I told the crew boss that I'd like them to follow the land contours -- I wasn't as concerned with attempting to keep the total length low as I was with the fence working in harmony with the property. Our property is a meadow on top of a ridgeline, and the crew did a beautiful job of placing the fence so that it winds gracefully along the rolling hay field,  seeming to be more of a part of it than an artificial industrial barrier. People driving by have stopped and asked who built the fence. (I usually lie and tell them that I did it. To say that most seemed, um...skeptical would be in the ballpark).

Because the entrance to our driveway is nearly twenty feet, Raatz installed a commercial (as opposed to residential) double gate that opens in the middle, as the span was too great for a single gate. The only issue I've had with the gate system was a lightning strike that fried the motherboard, but after a call to the incomparable Jody Schultz at Raatz, the problem was corrected quickly and completely.

I have every confidence in Raatz, and unhesitatingly recommend them as the finest company of it's kind I've ever seen.

The "B's" I gave for responsiveness and professionalism have to do with calling the main office. When I printed out, scanned, and emailed the agreement back to the salesman, I got no response from him so I called the office. The woman there said she got it, I gave her my CC# for the down payment, and then after I hung up I realized she didn't ask to schedule a date.So I called back to schedule. Then a week later I got a call that they'll be out the next day when the date she had scheduled me for was still a week away. I'm glad I just happened to have the day off when they did come out. Also, no one called me prior to  let me know LG&E would be coming into my yard and since I have dogs, I really like to know when someone is going to be in my yard.
The work was all good, though. The two guys who tore down the old fence and put in the posts took a solid 8 hours to do so, but it was a lot of fence!
The installation day I was not home for most of it, so I came home to a fence 90% completed. They updated me on what they'd done and how much they had left to go. We were very satisfied with the way the fence looks and the construction seems very sturdy.
The very next day I called the office back to see if someone could come back out because I realized that on the main use gate, we really needed the hinges and handles switched to the opposite side and if possible, to make the gate swing into the yard instead of out. They returned two work days later and did everything we asked for on that gate.
