"Chad could easily explain the problems he saw with my trees and did exactly what he said he would. He gave me instructions on how to treat the problems he found as he did the work. He was in time for the inspection and work."

"I was so pleased with this tree service. In addition to removing 2 trees, 3 stumps were grinded. A tree was trimmed in the front yard; they even trimmed our hedge. A large pile of brush and limbs was removed from our backyard. They left the property looking much better than it did when they arrived. I would most definitely recommend these professionals for any tree work you need to have done. Thank you so much."

"Alex and his crew went above and beyond my expectations. They were professional, kind, courteous and very hard working. Of the many bids I received, KC Service was the best. I've already spoken with Alex about additional work. I will absolutely use KC Tree Service again and recommend them to anyone needing tree work done."

"Michael and Bruce are fantastic and really helpful with advising how to handle older trees with issues. Their team handily trimmed and removed limbs, branches, and entire trees on our acre+ lot. They also cleaned up boxwoods. The whole yard looks like it has had a spa day. We will use them again for future cleanups, snow removal, and more!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Generally, you do not have the right to take fruit from a neighbor's tree, even if the branches overhang your property. The fruit is considered the property of the tree's owner. While you may have the right to trim branches that cross into your yard, the fruit on them typically still belongs to your neighbor. However, laws can vary by state and municipality. In some areas, branches that extend into your yard or trees that straddle a property line may entitle you to some of the fruit. The best course of action is to speak with your neighbor, as they may be happy to share. If a conversation is not possible, check your local regulations before picking any fruit.

You should plant trees at least 15 to 20 feet away from your house, and more if the tree will grow large and spread its limbs. Trees pose several dangers to houses when planted too close. They can litter the roof with leaves and branches, create fire hazards, make a ladder for larger pests, and even damage the foundation as their roots grow.

Cutting down a tree next to power lines is never a DIY job, and it’s a good idea to contact your utility company first. In most cases, the utility company will need to take care of any tree problems within 10 to 15 feet of power lines. If you want to remove the tree for aesthetic reasons, hire a pro to do the job. Trying to cut trees near power lines yourself can create many safety hazards, and you could be liable if you inadvertently cause damage to electrical equipment.

Trees naturally want to grow upward, so one may straighten all by itself, though this only comes into play when a tree is leaning just a small amount. For trees growing into an awkward position or those leaning heavily in one direction, the above steps are necessary to ensure the tree gets back on the right path. This also holds true for trees planted in a spot with unstable soil.

The average lifespan of an oak tree is 100 to 300 years, so long as it isn’t impacted by diseases like sudden oak death. Some species will last shorter or longer, depending on where you live.
