"Matt was an excellent manager of the project with continual availability and a good listening ear. I had several bids on the job, with a rough cut idea of what I wanted for the patio, and he was the only one who responded with a scaled draft of the project. The visual really helped to solidify the vision. Other companies offered services that were either too extensive and unnecessary, while over priced, or were not extensive enough, but still cost the same. These guys are professional concrete layers, they had perfect slopes to direct the water appropriately, and their masonry was phenomenal with perfectly patterned stones with beautiful contoured edges. These guys were the best for the job, very honest, well priced, providing quality work, and workable with changing plans and ideas. With any job, and any company, I encourage all consumers to be in constant communication to ensure that your ideas and concerns are voiced and met with understanding in the construction process."

"The guys did a great job and worked quickly! They relaid our whole paver patio and put a better foundation under it (it was installed poorly before we built the house). I felt like they were honest, incredibly hardworking and affordable."

"James and his crew, Chris and d Dustin did very high quality work. They build a patio with pavers that included a level square for a hot tub. When the hot tub was installed, the installers stated it was the best, most level hot tub pad they had seen. I love the pavers they installed, I love the stone pillars they built around the pergola we added. They built a beautiful space. They always showed up when expected, they kept me informed throughout the entire project and they were super kind and respectful. If I had any issues, they addressed them. I highly recommend this company. I have already used them again to frame an area around the patio for a flower garden. That project is also done and beautiful. James knows his business and made great suggestions that enhanced my initial vision for the project! Again, I highly recommend this company!"

"Punctual, friendly, professional, and very helpful. Amazing team of guys! We had a fairly new retaining wall that collapsed due to improper installation and deep roots buried in river rocks. David and his crew came bright and early, worked very hard in the hot sun, explained things along the way as I took pictures, and made sure that the wall was reconstructed correctly with proper drainage. The price fit perfectly in our budget. They went above and beyond! They left me with thick black topsoil to plant flowering shrubs and hauled away the roots and brush. I highly recommend David and his crew. We will continue to do business with them; as we are also needing concrete work done. Great job, fellas!!"

"I live in a town home community, and 4 units (including mine) were experiencing the serious failure of a two-story exterior brick facade. It was becoming a dangerous situation and needed prompt attention. We met with several brick experts to diagnose the problem and discuss how to repair or replace the wall. Anderson Mason had neither the "cheapest" quote, nor was it the most expensive quote, but Mr. Anderson was the brick mason all of the neighbors trusted the most. We could immediately tell that he was very concerned about putting his name on quality craftsmanship and materials, and we are glad we hired him. When we told Mr. Anderson that we were hiring him, the neighbors were honestly a little concerned about paying half of the cost up-front, but Mr. Anderson explained the amount of materials that would need to be ordered for the project. We felt tremendously better about everything when he immediately demonstrated that he trusted us by putting significant time, labor, and costs into "shoring up" our wall to prevent a dangerous collapse before he received any money from us. Mr. Anderson saved us from an unexpected wall collapse, and he kept us informed on the status of the materials and timeline of the project. He and his team expertly dismantled the failing wall (without further damage anything), kept us informed on the status of the materials, and kept us informed in advance of when weather would affect the timeline for the project. They were able to build a brand new wall in the estimated timeline given upfront. Although no homeowner enjoys an emergency project like this, we all learned to appreciate Mr. Anderson and all of the team members he brought to work on our project. We felt we could trust all of the team with our house keys, and we knew if we left them to work all day, we would come home to see significant progress being made. They all took pride in doing quality work, and they also made us feel like part of their family. In the end, we ended up with a beautiful new brick wall that matches the other existing units as well as one could hope (considering the older walls are sixty-plus years old)--actually, our new wall looks so much better than the old walls on the neighboring units. I know that if I need brick work in the future, I have the name of someone I can call who will give me the straight story about what work needs to be done, but who will not try to sell me something I do not need. Anybody considering hiring Anderson Masonry should feel at ease knowing that they can do so without worrying about someone doing poor work or "running off" with the money. It is rare these days to find someone who cares deeply about their work and also cares about keeping their word to their customers. Mr. Anderson is one of these rare individuals. In my mind, we could not have done better than hiring Anderson Masonry. I, and all of my neighbors, are thankful that we found him."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

In KS, using excessive ice melt can erode mortar and brick surfaces, while frequent high-pressure washing may weaken joints, especially on older stone veneer. Applying acidic cleaners can damage limestone and concrete. Neglecting to clear gutters or maintain proper yard grading allows water to collect near masonry, leading to cracks. Skipping routine inspections and crack sealing before winter also accelerates deterioration in this climate.

Helpful?

In Olathe, inspect your masonry each spring and fall for cracked mortar joints, white efflorescence, or shifting bricks—these are signs repairs are needed. Watch for water stains after heavy rain, which often signal drainage issues. The best times to schedule brick repair or stone veneer projects are April-May and September-October, when temperatures are moderate and conditions are ideal for long-lasting results.

Helpful?

Combining masonry work with upgrades like landscaping, drainage improvements, or foundation repairs in Olathe can streamline your project and minimize disruption. For example, coordinating brick repair with new walkway installation or pairing stone veneer updates with exterior waterproofing helps maximize contractor efficiency. Many local pros offer bundled services, making it easier to address multiple exterior needs during the area’s optimal weather windows.

Helpful?

To keep masonry work family-friendly in Olathe, consider scheduling projects during spring or fall when weather is mild and humidity is lower, reducing dust. Set up sturdy, visible barriers around work areas, especially near patios and walkways, to keep kids and pets out. Store all cement, sealers, and brick repair materials in locked sheds, and use water misting to control airborne dust common during dry Kansas days.

Helpful?

For Olathe homes, it’s helpful to keep a pressure washer for removing clay soil stains, tuckpointing tools for mortar repairs, and a masonry sealer for long-term protection. Wire brushes and efflorescence cleaners are useful for treating white deposits. In winter, have plastic sheeting and insulation blankets ready to shield stone veneer or brickwork from freeze-thaw cycles, and keep drainage supplies to prevent water pooling near foundations.
