"ZERO STARS! Tons of issues and extremely disappointed after spending $5000+. We were having the floors in one room refinished, carpet removed from two rooms and refinishing the hardwood underneath, and adding new flooring to the kitchen. PROBLEM 1: When they first dropped off the new wood to acclimate, the person dropping off the wood took a chisel to my existing hardwood floor. He could not explain to me what he was doing. He ruined existing inlayed pegs in the flooring. We were told it would be fixed. They just tried to cover it up with putty (which took multiple attempts) and you can still see it. PROBLEM 2: When ripping up the existing flooring in the kitchen, they knocked two separate holes in my kitchen walls - one going behind the baseboard. PROBLEM 3: The new flooring installed in the kitchen had several spaces where the wood was cut too short and it didn't meet up by the baseboards. The cracks have been filled with putty, but I paid for wood flooring, not flooring filled with putty. PROBLEM 4: The trim nowhere matches either the refinished floors or the existing baseboards. We got a lame excuse about "lighting." They just didn't want to spend time making the trim match the floor. The contract states they are not responsible for any damages. Bruno offered to take $200 off the amount owed to cover for me finding someone to fix the walls. I refused knowing it would cost more than that. We then made a deal with Bruno where he "promised" he would send someone out the next week to fix the walls, we would withhold $500 from the payment and would then pay him the $500 once it was fixed. It has now been a month and we never heard from again despite multiple attempts. I had to hire a contractor to fix it, which cost approximately the $500. Two simple words of advice - RUN AWAY."

Granite Restoration questions, answered by experts

No, you cannot use vinegar to polish marble. It is too acidic for cleaning or polishing and can etch the surface. Instead, opt for non-acidic cleaners made specifically for marble. Follow the manufacturer’s directions to ensure proper application and to protect the marble. However, a damp mop can be an effective marble cleaner when used appropriately and as long as moisture is immediately soaked up.

Both buffing and polishing increase the longevity of your floors by removing scratches and buildup, but they are different processes. Polishing removes the top layer of your floor, removing surface-level scuffs and scratches. Buffing your floor involves filling the scratches and scuffs with a buffing solution. No matter which method you choose, you can rest assured that both techniques will leave your floor looking shiny and new.

You can cut granite countertops after installing them, but you need to consider the mess it will make. Dust will be everywhere, and lots of protective gear will be required. On top of that, you will need to measure meticulously to make sure the cuts you make are perfect; otherwise, you’ll be stuck having to replace the entire slab of granite, which is a much bigger job.

While caulking is handy for quite a bit of jobs, it’s still limited. Any crack or gap larger than 1/4 inch is best left for a more intensive repair job. When you hire house painters, they should run a thorough check to see what they need to repair before they start the job.

Large repairs that caulking typically won’t do well with include cracks or holes larger than a 1/4 inch, rotted wood, or metal surfaces, such as garage doors.

Yes, you can put hot pans on your granite surface without worrying about cracking. This durable, heat-resistant stone can handle temperatures over 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit. However, it’s still good practice to use a pot trivet. There’s a risk that leaving a hot pot on a granite countertop for long periods can cause discoloration. Also, the pot can heat the granite, and an unsuspecting family member could burn their hand if they place it on the surface soon after the pot is removed.
