"Called company on Monday and got an appointment for an inspection on Wednesday. That following Monday, the technician arrived and went through each step is sealing off the concrete foundation to the water leak. The fix worked well and was put to the test with the recent record rains. Not one drop of water came into the basement."

"Very satified with the waterproofing as provided by this company. I had a concrete sidewalk poured and some sealant applied to various areas of the house foundation to prevent water from coming in the basement. It worked. There was a settling crack on the surface of concrete that upset me and my representative did come to inspect it. I would use this company again."

"Prompt service with very little advanced notice. Technician removed old flame sensor and installed a new one in about 20 minutes. Pleased with technician and service, and will do business again them again if needed. Owner called to confirm service and sent a text with name and information about the technician before his arrival."

"The Co. Sends you a pic of the person who will turn up, along with a profile (Family man, Harley rider, likes to fish), and his name & cell ohone number. I liked this a lot. He came earlier than originally scheduled, but they called to get permission first. He was very polite. He explained what happened (a pipe had burst over the winter to one of my two outside spigots because likely water was in the pipe and it froze, expanding the pipe and cracking it). He replaced that section of the pipe and put a turn off on it, so I will easily be able to drain the pipe in the fall. I showed him my other outside spigot , and I was pleased the fellow is honest and said I could add a turn off on this one, too, but it would cost another $450. or not do it, since there is no problem with it currently; besides, this one is just outside the living room wall and we would have to remove a bit of the inside wall to do it. I very much liked that he didn t try to push me into doing that, just to make another sale. That, alone, will get my next job done by this company. The work was fast & good. As far as the $, I didn t get other estimates so I don t know if the $450 I paid is within a normal range, and that s the only reason I gave price a half star less. Otherwise top notch company & work, and I will use them again if necessary."

"Fast and friendly, fixed a clog drain. I think a little pricey for just rodding, but all in all the work was good and the repairman was good and very satisfied, would definitely hire them again."

"I went to Angi.com to search for a waterproofing business. I contacted one business and was waiting for them to get back to me when I received notification that another business in my area had been located. Steve called me shortly after I had received the notification and said he received my information from Angi.com and could be out the same day and would call to let me know when he was headed my way. True to his word, he called and arrived when he said he would. After surveying the problem it was determined I needed a new sump pump. Steve quoted me the price and said he would have someone out the next day. The next morning I received a call from Steve letting me know he could have Julian out to my house that morning in about 20 minutes if that would work. I said it was perfect and Julian arrived when Steve said he would. Julian was very professional and courteous (as was Steve) and within an hour my new sump pump was installed. Julian called Steve to confirm the price which was what Steve had quoted me and Steve said he would email me my receipt later that day. I received my receipt later that day as promised. I would definitely recommend Windy City Waterproofing. I am very satisified with their service."

Foundation Drain Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, many modern water pumps are designed with energy efficiency in mind. Look for pumps with high efficiency ratings or those with an Energy Star certification. These pumps consume less power and can reduce your utility bills. Additionally, variable-speed pumps are more efficient since they can adjust the flow based on demand, providing significant savings over time.

Some questions you should ask before hiring a plumber or drainage installation company include:

  • Are you licensed and insured?

  • Do you have any customer testimonials I can read?

  • How do you handle unforeseen challenges that occur during the job?

  • Is your fee a flat rate or hourly?

  • Do you do the work, or do you have subcontractors?

  • Is everyone who does the work licensed and qualified plumbers?

  • Is cleanup included in the quote?

  • Do you offer a warranty or guarantee on your work?

Not all window wells have a formal drain, but they all require a method for water to flow away from the window. Some wells are connected to an interior or exterior drain tile, which is the most effective solution. Others rely on a deep layer of gravel or crushed stone that allows water to filter down into the soil.

However, if a window well lacks a proper drainage system, it can lead to basement seepage, costly water damage, mold growth, and potential foundation damage. This is especially true in areas with heavy rainfall or expansive soil.

If your window well doesn't have a drain or is not draining quickly enough, you have a few options. For gravel-based systems, the stone may have compacted and needs to be improved. For a more robust solution, you can hire a plumber or window installer to connect the well to a drainage system. This can also be a DIY project using a shovel or auger.

Submersible and pedestal sump pumps are two popular types of sump pumps. Submersible models are covered by water in a sump pit, which helps keep the motor cooler and quieter. Pedestal sump pumps stick out of the sump pit, so the motor stays dry and is easier to access. Submersible sump pumps are the pricier option, but they also have longer life spans.

Almost any kind of home can have a wine cellar or cabinet installed. You’ll need an area where a concrete floor can be put in, along with the necessary insulation, climate control, and ventilation systems. If you think of yourself as an aspiring sommelier, an underground wine cellar may be ideal, but it will cost significantly more.

What you choose to install really depends on your budget and how many bottles you’re looking to store.
