"Utilizing All Service Moving for the move was a very positive experience. They had good communication, answering several questions prior to the move and did a final confirmation just prior to the move date. As for the physical move itself, Jose, Abraham, and Alberto were polite, diligent, and careful moving the many items, and managed to complete the move more quickly than anticipated."

"Fantastic! From the moment Marci and Ann conducted the telephone interview, to the day of the move, everything was perfect. Bill and Phil worked extremely hard moving all of the heavy furniture, including a sofa bed, down two flights of stairs without complaint. They even assembled one dining room hutch. The move was completed in three hours. Bill and Phil have been with the company 17 years! The price was VERY reasonable. I would highly recommend John Mitchell Moving to anyone moving in the Indianapolis area."

"The total price came in slightly higher than the estimate, however, I moved during peak time... gas prices were at their all time high. Three years earlier the same move cost 100 percent lower, then again, I moved in non peak time..."

Customers say: True professional

"It went excellent. I am so happy I found them! They do wonderful work and are truly the nicest people to work with. They completely gutted my bathroom (before and after pictures are below) and were able to do everything from moving floor vents, moving plumbing, removing bulk heads, fixing electrical, as well as a custom glass shower. I also had them install and paint all new interior doors and install new laminate countertops in my kitchen. They truly care about doing a great job which is so nice. They are busy but worth the wait. I would definitely hire them again."

"Barry was great. He was very responsive and we exchanged several messages in the days leading up to our appointment. He was very friendly and helpful, which made our move into a new house much less stressful. He gave an estimate for the work before starting, and then he charged the same amount even though he ended up having to stay from about 8 am to 8 pm, much longer than we expected. (We gave him a little extra for his effort!)"

Moving questions, answered by experts

Using moving pods is generally cheaper than hiring a full-service moving company, primarily because you handle the packing and loading yourself, which eliminates labor costs. The cost savings are most significant for long-distance or cross-country moves; for local moves, hiring a moving company might be the more economical option. Renting and shipping moving pods can cost between $2,000 and $5,000, depending on factors like distance, the number of containers, and the weight of your items. Some services also charge a monthly rental fee of $75 to $200. In comparison, hiring a professional moving company for a long-distance move typically costs between $2,700 and $10,000.

Unfortunately, moving scammers exist, so it’s important to thoroughly vet your moving company before scheduling a service date. Your moving company is likely legitimate if the offer fits within the average cost range, they provide proper contracts and moving insurance, don’t require a large deposit, and have several positive and recent online reviews from previous customers. Feel free to request previous customer information from the moving service and contact them to inquire about their experience to ease any lingering concerns.

Tipping movers is not mandatory, and most professional companies do not expect it. However, it is a common way to show appreciation for their hard work and the care they take with your belongings and home. A standard tip is between 10% and 20% of your total bill, split among the crew, or about $10 per mover per hour, tipped individually. It's an especially good idea to tip if the movers work in difficult weather, handle specialty items like pianos or pool tables, provide extra packing services, or go above and beyond your expectations.

The level of difficulty for this type of move depends on the size of the safe. However, even a small gun safe can weigh several hundred pounds. Since gun safes are large and bulky, they are typically difficult to move and transport unless you have the right equipment and plenty of professional help.

Moving pods are most often available in three sizes: 8, 12, and 16 feet. To move a four-bedroom house, you’ll likely need two 16-foot moving pods. Of course, the exact answer depends more on your house’s square footage and the amount of belongings you have than on the number of bedrooms in the house. For example, moving a small four-bedroom house may only require one 16-foot pod and one 8-foot pod, but moving a large four-bedroom house may require more than two 16-foot pods.
