"Originally I called for a diagnostic of my AC unit, which was doing a terrible job cooling my house. Nikita did the diagnostic-turns out the coolant was leaking, a coil needed to be replaced, and not to mention the thing was from the 1990's. We decided to replace and upgrade it, as well as our furnace, since we froze last winter (turns out it was badly rusted on the inside and emitting CO into the house, which NO ONE found last winter (had it looked at by 4 different people and everyone said there was nothing wrong except that the BTU's were too small for the size of the house). Roy was so awesome, because even though they couldn't schedule us for the next 3 weeks, he made sure we stayed cool-he filled up the coolant and came over to the house a couple times when the AC stopped working. I will be keeping him as our heating and cooling guy!"

"They were able to work me in same day, as my power was out to my garage/chicken coop. I have critters in both that need heat. I didn?t ask about cost. The young man came to my home and tested all the way from my main circuit box to the garage. Stated he was almost positive of the problem. And I saw all the outlets showing ?green? and one, in the garage displaying ?red?. But wouldn?t be sure without getting out more expensive equipment to perform further testing. It would cost $221.00 to do further testing. That testing showed that GFI had malfunctioned in the first outlet from the main. Which already showed a red? response with the initial equipment. The good news?.he replaced the GFI in the garage, and it was included in the $221.00. Overall, great experience with this company. I just felt like I was upcharged to use the ?better?equipment to diagnose my issue. The new GFI was included in the $221.00. My only issue, I guess, would be the ?up charge? for a better reading. Never had this happen that the GFI was melted on one of the terminals on the back side of the outlet. I would recommend this company. Just get an idea of the cost first. I could?ve replaced this outlet for $20, but the symptoms didn?t match the problem."

"This was an Angie's List Big Deal for a certain amount of time.  I wasn't told that I needed to have the cleaner purchased ahead of time, so they sold me the product - at a profit to themselves.   The worker only used a little bit of the product and gave the remainder in the container back to me.  He didn't use his whole allotted time.  I ended up doing the job over myself with a scrub brush and a hose using the remainder of the product in the container that I had to purchase.

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

No, it isn’t necessarily bad to turn your AC on and off frequently—contrary to popular belief. Even if you stop and start your AC throughout the day, it won’t use as much energy as it would if you ran it nonstop.

If you’re concerned about your power consumption and energy costs, there are a few simple ways to use your AC more efficiently. Regularly cleaning the filters, scheduling routine maintenance, and using a programmable thermostat are all great choices.

Yes. Getting a whole-house dehumidifier can help you save money on energy bills. How? Your home automatically feels cooler when there’s less humidity in the air (“It’s the humidity that gets ya!” is such a true statement). This means that you won’t need to run your AC as much as you would if you had all that extra humidity in your home.

Aside from needing HVAC repair, there are times when you may need to replace your unit. HVAC replacement costs $5,000 to $12,500. Here are some telltale signs that your HVAC unit is going bad:

  • Your unit is 10 years or older.

  • Your home is very humid.

  • The unit keeps cycling without producing cool air.

  • You need to repair the unit frequently.

If your AC runs constantly, it could be due to a number of things, including a faulty thermostat, incorrect temperature settings, or broken equipment. Alternatively, you might have an airflow problem (for example, blocked vents or leaky ductwork). Either way, an HVAC pro can identify the specific problem and fix it for you.

If your AC condenser is nearing the end of its life, it might leak fluid or make loud or unusual sounds (like grinding or hissing). You might also notice that it isn’t heating your home as evenly or effectively as it once did. Also, an aging condenser will have to work harder to cool your home, which may force it to use more power and drive up your utility bills.
