"This company is the best! I found them a year ago and had them install a new AC/Heat system after having several proposals from others. They are fair, careful, honest, and know what they are doing. They are professional, but treat you like a good neighbor who is willing and knows how to help you. I am so glad I found them!"

"One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning technician William B responded to our heating outage Saturday, Feb 27. He was very well prepared, knowledgeable, and dedicated to to analyzing the very complex series of problems. He basically disassembled the furnace and reset the air and gas flows. The furnace was still under warranty so there was no cost. We are most appreciative. He was so well trained and skilled. Would highly recommend William and One Hour."

"They were very professional and did outstanding work. We had done some remodeling, and have pets, and did not realize had dirty our AC ducts had gotten over time. The technician was able to show us before and after photos and the results were amazing. I highly recommend them to anyone wanting to feel better about breathing the air coming out of their vents."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Replacing both an AC and a furnace takes a full day on average, ranging from eight to 12 hours. The process involves removing the old units, installing the new ones, and ensuring all connections are properly made. If both systems are being replaced simultaneously, it can take longer than installing a furnace alone, so plan accordingly.

It’s never a good idea to run your AC without a filter, even just for a night. The filter defends your HVAC system from the dust, dirt, debris, and other grime in your home. Without a filter, those contaminants are more likely to get inside your system and potentially damage it.

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, or ASHRAE, sets the standard guidelines for air changes per hour in homes and businesses. The International Residential Code, or IRC, also sets ACH requirements for residences and bases those requirements off of ASHRAE standards plus climate specifics related to your location.

The cost to replace an AC unit averages around $5,900, with a typical range between $3,900 and $8,020. The final price depends on several factors, including the type and size of the air conditioner, its efficiency rating, your geographic region, and labor costs for installation. Smaller units like portable and window ACs are much less expensive, costing between $90 and $550, compared to central or ductless systems. If your current unit is less than 10 years old, repairing it may be more cost-effective than a full replacement.

Unfreezing an AC unit is not a DIY project unless the problem is a dirty air filter. Changing out an air filter is easy for homeowners, but otherwise, trying to repair ductwork, refill refrigerant, or replace a blower fan motor are tasks best left to the pros. Otherwise, you could cause further damage to your cooling system or even harm to yourself.
