"I worked with Pam throughout the entire experience. She was wonderful. She contacted me quickly to schedule an appointment and also scheduled radon testing on my behalf. We had to reschedule due to a snow storm, but she was quick to contact me and arrange a new day. On the day of the appointment, she showed up on time. We spent a few hours at the house while she inspected it. She pointed out a few issues here and there. As soon to be first time homeowner, I really appreciated this. She sent the inspection report the following day. It included in depth details and pictures.

"It went well. A guy came out and did a free basement inspection. We had some water intrusion that I am correcting myself but I wanted a pro to come out and make sure the sill and other foundation parts were still in good shape. He came out and answered all of my questions in the inspection, and explained that the sill plate was still in good shape and that no repairs were needed. That was honest of him and incredibly helpful information to know. He did a thorough inspection and was polite enough to answer all of my questions. Very professional!"

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

Your radon fan needs to operate 24/7 to be effective. The only time the fan isn't operating is during its replacement. Radon levels in the home can increase within hours if the fan stops working or something obstructs the stack vent. Fortunately, radon systems require no downtime maintenance between fan changes.

No, air purifiers are not an effective way to reduce or remove radon. Radon is a radioactive, inert gas that cannot be filtered by standard air purifiers, which are designed to capture particulates like dust and mold. While an air purifier can improve indoor air quality by removing other pollutants, it should not be relied upon for radon. The only effective solution for high radon levels is a dedicated radon mitigation system.

Installation typically takes 1-2 days, depending on the system and property layout.

You'll need to test your home for radon after installing the mitigation system, then again every two years. If radon remains elevated, contact a licensed radon professional, either the contractor who installed the system or a different one, and have them evaluate the system. They may need to make some changes to improve its effectiveness and performance.

The fan that pulls the radon out of the air needs to run continuously, so you may see an increase in your electric bill once you install the mitigation system. Additionally, you may see an increase in your heating or cooling bills, as the fan can cause some loss of hot or cool air.
