"We replaced the original roof on our house. I expressed my concerns about re-installation of the lightening rods to my roofer. We have had at least three direct hits since they were originally installed in 2013. My roofer called William who was very helpful. William offered to come out an make sure everything was 100% after re-installation. He came the day after I called and I'm glad he did. While the reinstall was the best he had seen (his words) there were issues after 5 year and 3 strikes that needed addressed. He fixed those and now I have a new roof and I am certain the lightening rods will work as intended. Highly recommend this company."

"My family experienced water and wind damage earlier this year. We had to be placed in a hotel. After reaching out to numerous companies, we chose Maynor construction. I am glad we did!! If it wasnâ t for Maynor and his staff, I wouldnâ t have made it. The process was long and depressing because of being away from home. However Maynor and his staff reassured me. They showed patience with me and worked hand and hand with my insurance company with getting my home repaired in a timely manner. Thank you Maynor! I truly feel like we are family!"

"Wow......I'm usually one to read reviews before I hire a company. This time I failed to do so and had to pay for it. After speaking with Brenda on the phone about the situation with my generator, we agreed to have one of their techs come out and fix the situation. The previous company already had $600 into this when they finally advised I needed a new board. By what I explained to her on the phone, IPS & S was sure I needed the control board replaced. They were $90 cheaper on the part than my other company, and she said they charge $90/hr for service. I thought, this was a no brainer. I scheduled them to come out ASAP and make the repair. When the bill came, it was $300 more than expected. WHY? Because Brenda, from the office, failed to tell me that they also charge a $1.25/mile trip fee (to and from their west side location), plus the $90/hr is from when they leave the facility to when they get back. Your paying for that too.......just hope they do not run into a traffic jam. When I called to complain about the extra charge that I did not know about, Brenda claimed I must have not heard her when she told me. I did not hear her because she DID NOT tell me. Had I of known that up front, I would have stayed with the company I already had invested $600 with. Brenda said, "but our part is $90 cheaper." True, but when you add in the extra $300 travel fee, they were actually a lot more expensive. Then somehow we got magically disconnected as we were discussing the bill issue. I called back 4 times before someone finally answered and I got back in touch with Brenda. After being on hold for several minutes, they agreed to take $90 off my bill. At this point I had to let them go ahead and finish it since he already had the unit tore apart in my yard.....and putting it back together was going to cost me the $300 anyway, without the repair. UGG! Let me say this......I think the tech guy did a great job. Got the part replaced and installed in less than 30 minutes. If you ever decide to hire this company......get everything quoted in writing. I failed to do that, my fault, and it cost me. Brenda's last comment to me was, "now if we ever come out again to repair something, at least you will know what our charges are." Guess what???? I won't be calling them anyway. I see why they are have 1 star reviews. I would not recommend!!!"

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

No, you shouldn’t use an extension cord to plug a generator directly into your home without using a transfer switch. That’s because systems like pumps and HVAC fans need a steady power source that might not be available directly from your generator alone. If you bypass the circuit breaker box, you risk damaging your electrical system, creating a risk of electrical fire or electrical shock to you or any workers repairing lines on your local electrical grid.

You may need a permit for a portable generator if you’ll be installing a transfer switch for your primary residence or similar work. Otherwise, a permit for other uses may not be necessary. Check your local building codes or ask a local generator installer for more information about your local regulations.

Costs depend on generator type, labor, and additional wiring or transfer switch requirements.

When properly maintained, natural gas generators can last a long time, as much as 20 to 40 years. They have relatively few needs compared to generators with other fuel types. However, the generator’s lifespan ultimately depends on how often the generator is used and for how long it’s left running.

Generator size requirements vary wildly among properties, but typical generator sizes are listed below based on home square footage:

  • 1,000 sq ft: 6–9 kW

  • 1,500 sq ft: 7–10 kW

  • 2,000 sq ft: 10–14kW

  • 2,500 sq ft: 12–16kW

  • 3,000 sq ft: 16–20kW+

Unfortunately, home square footage isn’t always a good indicator of generator size requirements. Instead, you should call in a professional to discuss which items in your home you’d like to run via your generator. They can calculate peak and average consumption for those items and then size your generator appropriately for optimal performance.
