"We hired Bowden Ceramic Tile to completely tear out and rebuild our master bathroom. Wayne Bowden worked as general contractor and the scope of work included moving the shower and wc, ripping out and rebuilding several interior walls, removing the pre-existing floor (carpet) and replacing it with porcelain tile, removing a bathtub, and all kinds of related carpentry, electrical, and plumbing work. The job took approximately 6 weeks. Wayne's work ethic is outstanding. He and his crew came to work promptly each weekday morning and worked steadily until end of day. During the project several problems came up (e.g., existing wall slightly out of plumb and too tight for new vanity due to bowed 2x4) and Wayne solved the problem rather than simply try to work around it. The result is that all new and rebuilt walls and corners are perfectly square and plumb, resulting in the tile also being perfectly aligned and square. In summary, the work done by Bowden Ceramic Tile was outstanding. If you want the best "tile guy" in central Indiana, Wayne is your guy."

"Rob is fantastic. Very meticulous in everything he does from removing the carpet, installing underlayment, to laying the laminate flooring. Would definitely hire him again for any future flooring jobs."

"Terry is the owner, he is very friendly and knowledgeable about the different types of carpet. We have hardwoods throughout the house except in the bedroom. We have a little Boston Terrier and Terry knew exactly what type of carpet to suggest. It's a high quality that looks wonderful, NO Seams. The installer did a wonderful job and took his time to make sure it was right. I would highly recommend Terry and his team at Floor Coverings International. Thank you for a job WELL DONE!"

"They did a great job. Replaced fireplace. We followed his recommendations on size and type of tile and we love it. Fransisco and partner came in time, finished in a very timely matter, cleaned up and returned next day to apply grout. Again on time, and cleaned up. We love it! Thank you"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Tile costs vary by material; for example, ceramic tends to be more affordable than stone. These influence installation timelines and skill requirements.

There are no unbreakable rules of design, but experts recommend against using large tiles in areas with poor subflooring where they’re more prone to cracking, in areas where the floor isn’t entirely level, over raised areas or dips, and in bathrooms where budget is the primary concern. The size of your bathroom shouldn’t be a reason not to use large tiles; in fact, larger tiles, also known as slab tiles, can be a modern and sleek choice for bathroom floors and walls.

Installations typically take 1-3 days, depending on area size; repairs are usually completed sooner if the issue is localized.

Like glass tiles, you will not need to seal most porcelain tiles, particularly if the porcelain is already glazed. It depends on quality. Porcelain is very water resistant, but it is not 100% waterproof. To avoid staining, some homeowners use a penetrating sealer. It is also a good idea to seal your grout. Unless you use epoxy grout, grout is very porous and can harbor bacteria, mold, and mildew.

Porcelain is a relatively affordable, mid-range countertop material. It typically costs between $50 to $70 per square foot.

Compared to quartz, porcelain is slightly more affordable, as quartz generally ranges from $50 to $200 per square foot. However, lower-quality, builder's grade quartz can be similar in price to porcelain.

Compared to granite, the price can be similar, depending on the quality of the stone. While granite slabs can range from $50 to $200 per square foot, you can find lower-end granite in the same price range as porcelain. High-end granites will cost significantly more.

Porcelain is generally more expensive than laminate, acrylic, and ceramic, but less expensive than high-end slate, concrete, and marble. A key benefit is that porcelain does not require sealing, which reduces long-term maintenance costs.
