Small jobs welcome

"It was a great pleasure having Robert in my home today! My walk-in shower needed some real help; loose tiles, gaping seams and voids in-between some of the tiles. Multiple botched attempts at making repairs in the past had left at least four different tints and different grout materials, it was a mess. I sent Robert pictures of the shower prior to the job and he assessed it, and came up with a plan to fix it properly. He even made sure that the right type of grout, and FINALLY, the correct color match was made! Robert showed up right on time fully prepared and immediately got down to work. You could see and tell right away that this man knows what heâ s doing! And not only did he do the needed repairs per see, but he made sure everything was all symmetrical to make everything flow together smoothly. The end result is wayy better than what I had dared to hoped for. Heâ s a great guy, who did a great job, at a great price! So overall, yes, this was definitely a 5-Star performance! Highly recommended! And as an addendum, Robert noticed (well, itâ s obvious..) that it wouldnâ t hurt to have our upstairs carpeting stretched. Thatâ s what he normally does anyway (carpeting and flooring), so weâ ll definitely be hiring him for that soon too!"

"Our experience with Schriber Flooring was fantastic. I would HIGHLY recommend Trey and his team to anyone. We found him on Angie’s List and he had excellent reviews. We got several quotes and his was the cheapest, but we also got to see pictures of work he had already done for other clients beforehand. Trey came out to give us an estimate, and because of his expertise and advice we learned that we actually wanted to buy a different type of flooring (vinyl plank instead of laminate), and he was able to recommend different better options of where to buy it. I was so impressed with him. Upon pulling up the old carpet, Trey ended up finding severe water damage with mold and a rotten subfloor underneath, so the job ended up being much larger than anticipated, but we were prepared for potential damage under the floor. Trey was professional, hardworking, quick; he made sure to give me options every step of the way. He wouldn’t make changes without giving me an updated estimate. And he was a total perfectionist; at one point in the entry way, they were almost done but the floor was making a weird popping noise, so he pulled it back up and then worked on the subfloor until it stopped making the noise. They even got in the crawl space and checked the joists for me to see if there was any damage underneath (there wasn’t, thank goodness!). If you’re looking at doing a project, I’d DEFINITELY consider Schriber Flooring. We have already arranged for him to come back and do the rest of our floors!"

"Abbott Stone and Tile did an amazing job of installing glass and stone tile on the wall between our set of floating shelves. It looks incredibly beautiful and they worked efficiently, finishing the job in less time than I would have guessed. Dave Abbott does not pawn off his work to less-skilled others; he wants the end-product to look fantastic and he assures that by maintaining a very high standard. And it was a great deal for the money! Thank you Abbott Stone and Tile!!!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can tile over existing tiles in a bathroom, but it is not always recommended. For this method to be successful, the original tile surface must be clean, flat, and free of damage such as cracks, unevenness, mold, or mildew. While tiling over existing tiles can save time and money, there are potential drawbacks. The new adhesive may not bond properly, and the process adds extra weight to the wall or floor. Additionally, the increased height of the surface could interfere with door clearances. For the best and most durable results, removing the old tiles before installing new ones is generally the better option.

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are made from clay, but porcelain tiles are fired in a kiln at a higher temperature. This makes them more durable, but it also means porcelain is more expensive than ceramic at $3 to $5 more per square foot.

Even with the higher price point, many people choose porcelain over ceramic because there are more color and design options.

The number of boxes of tile you need depends entirely on the amount of tile in each box or case. Different manufacturers package their tiles differently, and boxes contain different amounts of tile depending on the size, shape, and material. Often, the amount of area that a case will cover is listed in the product description. To calculate the number of boxes you need, take the total square feet of the space and divide it by the number of square feet the box will cover.

Tile shouldn’t be set tight against the tub. Bathtubs can expand when filled, and they can shift slightly with the weight of occupants. For this reason, it’s important to leave a slight gap between the bathtub and the first row of tile. Aim for a narrow gap of approximately 1/16 of an inch, filled with caulk, to allow for this expansion and movement while still allowing for tile shower waterproofing.

Your tiles will have a significant visual impact on your bathroom, so you’ll want to make a thoughtful decision. Once you land on the tile material that suits your needs and budget, you can consider the color schemes you want. Consider whether you want something modern, classic, or eye-catching.
