Small jobs welcome

Hi there! I have about 9 years of experience with home remodeling, house flips, and currently I am focused more on carpentry (custom closets, interior/exterior trim, etc.) and flooring. I am still open to most home repair needs. I am new to Angi, but feel free to check out some photos of my work in the project photos. I am also willing to share more photos. Feel free to email me at [email protected] or call/text at 3179032308. Thanks!

"Member Comments: We initially sought quotes from several larger companies but found they were all unable to offer design solutions that added any additional cabinet space and their prices were way out of the budget ball park. Then we found Andy Shoemaker with Shoemaker's Custom Carpentry. His customer reviews were very impressive and now we know why. The entire experience from quote to finished product was such a positive experience! He really listened to what we were looking for, met all of our requirements and exceeded our expectations. Andy provides a high quality finished product on schedule at a very reasonable price with the highest level of customer service. For these reasons, we strongly recommend Shoemaker's Customer Carpentry."

"We started a master bathroom renovation and had just fired the first contractor when Nu Look came out to see what work we wanted done with the coupon for electrical services we had purchased.  Dave, the owner, said his company would be able to complete the bathroom.  He did tell us up front he was not the cheapest company but if there was any work they did that we did not like, they would redo it to our satisfaction and they did. They put pocket lights in, moved light switches, added outlets for the vanity and an outlet inside the vanity, and installed two exhaust fans.  Three of the pocket lights do not fit flush with the ceiling.  They are about 1/4 in away.  It is not noticable when you go in the bathroom because you have to turn the lights on to see (no windows) but I know they are not how they should be. I brought it to their attention but they could not find a fix.  I wish they would have checked out the material before they installed it.  We replaced our bathtub with a soaker tub and the first contractor build the frame for it and installed it.  Jim, the lead contractor, tiled inside the bathtub to the ceiling and the face of the tub exactly how we asked and it is beautiful.  One of Jim's crew tiled the floor and did a nice job.  However, he took too much grout out when he cleaned the tiles and all the sharp edges of the tiles were exposed which was not acceptable to us.  We asked that it be redone and they did chip out all the grout and regrouted the floor.  It looks and feels much better now but it did cost us another bag of grout mix.  They installed a new toilet which we didn't  use until the construction was done and it wobbled when sat on.  Unacceptable!  My husband had to level it and seal it around the bottom which they had not done.  We had pocket doors added between the bedroom and bathroom (Dave's idea) and we love then. This added $1200 labor to the cost of renovation but it was a great idea.  We didn't know they could be added after a house was built.  The door originally had about a two inch gap at the top after installation so you could see the hardware and it looked awful.  My husband told them how he would like to have it finished and they did it.  Looks great now.  My issue was that they were okay with it half done.  We did not contract for them to paint the bathroom so after they were done, we painted.  It was then that we noticed they had not filled any on of the nail holes in the casings for the pocket door.  We had to do all the finishing work.  Not a big job but again, for what we paid, I would have expected them to have 'finished' all the work.  When they said they were done, we had to call them back to paint the bathroom ceiling because between the tiling and grouting in the bathtub, they had left a mess on the ceiling.  They did come back the next day and paint the ceiling.  They installed the 3 piece vanity and did a good job.  They did not install the vanity top as the company making the top wanted to install it.  Since that happened a week after they had completed their job, we put in the sinks and faucets.  Everything we asked to be done was done, just as Dave promised.  I just would rather have not had to inpsect everything to make sure it was complete.  If we had not said anything, they would have left the tile floor in a poor condition, the pocket door wouldn't have been finished and the ceiling would not have been painted.  They are easy to work with, very personable and reliable.

"These guys are rock stars.  They worked hard and were extremely helpful and knowledgeable.  They could identify actual weeds vs. native plants while weeding and even offered to do a few extra little things in the adjacent beds when they finished with the main job as part of the deal.  I scheduled another project the following week and they cleared ivy from the garage and tidied up the rest of the flower beds and pruned a tree.  They're fantastic.

"Michael (owner) was awesome to work with! Came by the house three different times, once on a Sunday, to talk through ideas me look at plant options online with my husband and I. Crew showed up exactly when he said they would and finished on time. They cleaned up well and hauled off all debris. Very happy with the final outcome and will be hiring again to complete border around a new privacy fence."

"They did a fine job. It was kind of pricey and it was a little over $1100 for the whole yard and tree removal and all of the work that they did. They were prompt, answered phone calls and answered questions if there were any about the work."

Greenhouses and Nurseries questions, answered by experts

The quickest way you can protect plants and trees from frost is to cover them with garden blankets or frost cloths. Also, bringing potted plants or trees indoors is much simpler than trying to cover and protect them outdoors. Remember to anchor blankets with something such as sandbags, fabric pins, or rocks if the forecast calls for strong winds to keep them from blowing away and exposing your trees and plants.

In most cases, wait three to five days to repot or relocate a plant from a greenhouse or nursery. That way, your plant has time to recover from any shock during the move and adapt to the conditions in and around your home. Some hearty plants may not need as long, and delicate plants might need several weeks. You should ask the professional at your nursery for a recommended timeline. Consider asking about an initial watering schedule to help stimulate root growth and promote a healthy plant.

Eco-friendly materials include sustainably-sourced woods, recycled metals, low-VOC paints, and non-toxic sealants, which reduce environmental impact. Using these in repairs promotes sustainability and can improve indoor air quality and overall building health.

Minor fixes like patching leaks or repainting are DIY-friendly, but structural repairs require professional expertise.

Adding burnt charcoal to your garden beds and plant pots can yield several benefits, but there are risks involved, too. Charcoal, particularly biochar, can enhance soil structure, improve water drainage, and increase nutrient retention. When activated, charcoal provides key nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. However, burnt charcoal, especially from briquettes, can inadvertently alter soil's pH levels and become hazardous to plants. Overall, there are better and less risky soil amendments available, such as vermiculite, perlite, or wood chips.
