"He took an old deck and managed to make it look so much better. Great price considering it included deck cleaning, removing the furniture, and the staining. Would absolutely hire again!"

"Brandon responded to my email within 12 hours. He was able to power wash our house and deck the next day which was amazing! He and his team did an excellent job power washing the house siding and deck taking extra care to protect our plants, garden, and flowers. They moved all the deck furniture and put it all back when they finished. We were beyond pleased with the results! Our deck is 24 years old and they brought it back to life and looking so clean! The pricing was very reasonable for the amount of work that was done. I would highly recommend Brandon and his team of Defiance Detail and Power Washing!!"

"Super easy to work with and very trustworthy. It’s hard to find a handyman who actually shows up when they say they will and does such clean, solid work. I felt comfortable having them in my home and will absolutely call them again."

"The crew did a great job. They came while I was at work and thoroughly cleaned the deck (power washer, wood cleaner/brightener). They even took the time to clean under the deck (it's on a 2nd story). It took them several hours, but they got the job done. This deck is over 600 square feet with many railing spindles. The next week, they came back to stain everything. They called a couple of times during each process to check in with me, which I appreciated. I appreciated that they covered everything with tarps to make sure my house siding and garage door did not get messed up. This crew even carefully removed (and then re-installed) my existing lattice work so they could stain the vertical posts. I couldn't believe believe they were that thorough. I greatly appreciated them taking such pride in a job well done. They were polite, professional and cleaned up everything. I'd definitely recommend this company. The finished deck looks great!"

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

For a 12x20-foot (240-square-foot) deck, you can expect to pay between $7,200 and $14,400. This cost is based on a general price of $30 to $60 per square foot. The final price will depend on factors such as the decking material, design complexity, deck type, location, and local labor costs. Keep in mind that add-ons will increase the total; for example, adding an under-deck drainage system to a deck of this size could cost an additional $7,700.

The best way to clean your decking is to clear debris from the gaps between the boards, sweep the surface, rinse it, apply cleaner, rinse again, and let it dry fully. A homemade deck cleaner made of two gallons of warm water and 1/2 cup vinegar is a simple cleaning solution for both wood and composite decking. You can sprinkle baking soda on any spots with mold or mildew, then scrub the area and rinse clean.

That depends on the condition of your deck. An older deck that looks drab, worn, or has multiple damaged boards might be worth replacing before selling. However, if your deck is in good condition, you can simply clean, repaint, or stain it.

Pressure-treated decking may be worth it if you want a natural, insect- and rot-resistant decking material that will last for decades with proper maintenance. As such, it’s a much better option than untreated pine. Alternative wood decking materials like cedar and redwood tend to be less durable and more expensive. Some homeowners prefer composite decking, which is a low-maintenance alternative to wood but is also more costly.

When building a deck, #2 grade lumber is a go-to for several reasons. It’s strong, budget-friendly, and works well for most framing and decking needs. But upgrading to #1 or Appearance Grade can give your deck that extra visual edge if you're after a cleaner, more polished look for high-visibility spots.
