"Couldn't be happier with Jason and Deck Pro, quick quoting, responsive all throughout the process & just a very nice job done on the cleaning & staining of our fence. We used his suggestion on the color of the fence and couldn't be happier as well. Thank you Jason & will do business with again!"

"Joe is who I worked with and he was very quick to respond, polite, reasonable priced and got the work done when he said he would. Sealed around chimney and vents on roof, cleaned, replaced boards and stained deck, looked like new again, when he was done. I was so impressed I have already referred him to my sister and friends. I will definitely use them again!"

"Brandon responded to my email within 12 hours. He was able to power wash our house and deck the next day which was amazing! He and his team did an excellent job power washing the house siding and deck taking extra care to protect our plants, garden, and flowers. They moved all the deck furniture and put it all back when they finished. We were beyond pleased with the results! Our deck is 24 years old and they brought it back to life and looking so clean! The pricing was very reasonable for the amount of work that was done. I would highly recommend Brandon and his team of Defiance Detail and Power Washing!!"

"I recommend Marcos Lara and his crew wholeheartedly. You won't be disappointed. Marcos especially stands out on communication and honesty.
I appreciated the frequent updates on scheduling and progress. He made some suggestions on paint scheme that resulted in a much better outcome. And the quality of the work was very good, ultimately.
Minor complaints: I gave him a B on professionalism for three reasons:  1) I expect a painting crew to clean up at the end of every day instead of only at the end of the job. We lived for weeks with paint chips and old caulk littering our driveway, walkway, decks, and landscaping. I mentioned this to Marcos at the end of the job and he thanked me for the feedback. I have no doubt that if I had raised the complaint earlier in the project he would have taken care of it.  2) They did not clean up most of their paint splatters and overspray until I pointed it out. I expect painters to clean these things up before I point them out. Most of them anyway.  3) Several areas needed one more coat for full coverage. I had to point these areas out. I expect the painter to notice these things first, and let me know if the job requires more work than originally agreed upon.
ALL my complaints were addressed quickly and to my satisfaction. Marcos is very customer-oriented. If you make your expectations clear, he will meet them. Marcos is a good listener and is learning fast how to grow a successful business. I imagine if I hired Marcos in a year from now, he will have learned so much more about what customers expect that none of these things would be an issue.

"This contractor did a superb job of restoring a deck which had been very poorly stained by another firm several years ago. The original stain had been irregularly applied with many large spots and a generally unsightly appearance. GUP not only cleaned and restained the deck but went the exta distance to sand out the overstained spots left by the original company. The result was a deck which looks perfect and shows no evidence of the earlier mistakes. GUP delivered on time, within the estimate and worked many extra hours to get the job done right. I would recommend them to everyone. They are true professionals."

"Paul and his crew are are very detailed and take great pride in their work.  He has also painted some interior surfaces for me including cabinetry and trim.  He leaves a clean area at the end of the day.  He is always on time and his prices are very reasonable.

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Most building codes require that railing spindles (also known as balusters) on decks or stairs be spaced no more than four inches apart. This safety standard is often called the '4-inch sphere rule,' which means a sphere with a 4-inch diameter should not be able to pass through the opening between balusters. This rule is in place to prevent small children and pets from slipping through the railing. For the same reason, the space between the bottom rail and the deck or floor surface should also be no more than four inches. As a general guideline, professionals often install three balusters per foot of railing. However, since specific requirements can vary by location, it is essential to check your local building codes to ensure compliance before starting your project.

Pressure-treated lumber is one of the most affordable types of decking upfront. This material is widely available, so you can usually find pressure-treated lumber at almost any local home improvement store you visit. Keep in mind that wood requires a lot of upkeep with repainting and restaining, so any kind of wood may be more expensive in the long run than something like PVC decking.

How long it takes to install composite decking depends on the size of the decking material, the skills of the person installing the deck, the number of people helping, and how much prep work needs to be done before you can begin. Generally speaking, it takes anywhere from a few days to several weeks to build a composite deck.

Pavers are a great decking option for pools. They’re customizable, come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, textures, materials, and price points, and they’re slip-resistant. Concrete pool decks, on the other hand, are harder to repair and replace if damaged and aren’t as slip-resistant as most paver materials. However, not all pavers are equal in terms of durability, maintenance, and performance. Pavers also have their own cons that may encourage homeowners to opt for stamped concrete instead, such as higher upfront costs.

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.
