"I am in a new construction house and had a water leak in my basement.  The representative came out to evaluate the situation, checked the sump pit, the drain tiles and the exterior for cracks. Turns out the problem had to do with flashing and caulking.  The builder has ultimately fixed the problem.  The representative who came out was very responsive, prompt, courteous and accommodating spending time investigating the possible source of the leak.   While we did not use their services, I was impressed by the thoroughness and effort.   I would highly recommend you have Reliable Basement Services, LLC look at your issue and recommend a solution. Should I ever have need of their service I would not hesitate to use them.

"Wotjek and his crew did an excellent job. We had them remove two short accent walls on the front of our home. After the removal, they used the old bricks to repair the corners so that you would never know that they had ever been any other way. The removal and repair where there had been an old window box was also done. They cleaned all the unused bricks and stacked them in our garage so we would have matching bricks should we ever need to replace or repair any of our masonry. He was very responsive and punctual. He came back to acid wash the mortar and we all agreed the mortar color wasn't what it should be. He has promised to return after winter to grind out and replace the mortar. This is fine with us and we trust that he will keep his promise. I will report back after that is completed. I highly recommend his work. We would hire him again if needed.

"The work was done in a professional manner and the cleanup removed all traces. The windows and glass blocks were installed in one day, so our home was not open overnight. I am very pleased with the results and intend to use the firm to replace the remaining windows at a later date."

"Cinder blocks have to be waterproofed. Otherwise, cinder blocks absorb rain like a sponge and water starts coming into the building. You've got to waterproof these bricks. You have to do it every 10 years. It's a special paint for the bricks. The stuff can get really expensive, that's why we did it in two stages. Everybody in the building had to pitch in with a special assessment because we didn't have the money in our condo account to do it. They did like the west side of the building and then the back side of the building the first time and then they did the east side of the building and the front side the second time. I didn't do the original hiring of these people. The daughter of the lady that owned the unit on the third floor was living up there. She didn't work and she had the time. They were Angie's List members. They did all the interviewing. I did talk to the lady, her name is Kathy Torres. They came out a few times taking pictures and I remember talking to her. She was really professional. They were very knowledgeable. You kind of have to get everyone in the building to agree on the stuff. She had called some places and I think from their homework they thought that Arrow was really good. And then when I met Kathy Torres, she was really knowledgeable and really on top of things. I think their price was good. I remember her looking at other places and they were all about the same. It's not a cheap job. The work was good. There was always good communication."

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

Glass block windows aren’t fire hazards; fire-rated glass block windows can increase your home’s fire safety. Modern glass blocks are made with materials that can resist high temperatures and prevent fire spread. Most offer a 45-minute fire rating, while some increase it to two hours. Compared to the typical 20 to 90 minute rating for a double-pane window, glass block can increase your home’s safety in the event of a fire.

Glass block windows typically last for 15 to 30 years, which is slightly less than the 20- to 50-year lifespan of standard windows. You can extend their life by resealing them every few years. Professional installation is also key to ensuring the windows are placed correctly and will function properly for years to come. A professional installer will have the necessary skills, tools, and knowledge to install these features and can identify potential issues like damaged frames or cramped areas during a consultation.

Luckily, glass block windows need minimal maintenance. Other than regular cleaning, the only maintenance involved in having a glass block window is inspecting for cracks every year and applying sealer to the mortar joints if the blocks are set in masonry mortar. Glass block windows hold up well against wind and moisture better than traditional windows and are not prone to rot.

Most installations take 1-3 days, depending on the number of blocks and customization requirements.

Glass walls are more expensive overall than their brick or drywall counterparts. However, if you need walls for a building with more than two or three stories, glass walls are the more budget-friendly option.
