"1000% Recommend!! We had our whole house renovated by Steve and he did an amazing job! Yes, limestone often turns yellow over time when improperly cared for. The stone contains natural iron deposits, which can oxidize when exposed to water, acids, or harsh chemicals, such as bleach. Without exposure to water or chemicals, limestone should not turn yellow. Always seal limestone countertops to protect them from moisture, and only use gentle cleansers designed for stone.

Silestone® is a low-maintenance countertop material, but certain things, like strong chemicals and solvents, can cause damage. Abrasive scrubs can cause scratches, and products that contain oil or powder can leave a residue. Finally, avoid letting oven cleaner come into contact with Silestone® because it can cause discoloration.

There are three main downsides to quartzite: the cost, the porosity, and the weight. As a natural stone, there’s a level of scarcity that can drive up the price of certain types of quartzite. Even more common varieties are less affordable than synthetic materials like laminate and other natural stones like granite. 

You’ll also have to reseal your quartzite countertop annually to combat the natural porosity and reinforce your cabinets to account for the added weight.

Engineered stone doesn’t need sealing because it is non-porous. The manufacturing process creates a natural stain resistant to moisture, which also makes it easy to clean.

Standing water can lead to surface discoloration if your granite countertops are improperly sealed. However, it’s possible to remove hard water stains with a baking soda paste. Take more care with acidic liquids, such as fruit juice or red wine, which can leave more permanent stains. That’s why it’s so important to reseal these surfaces regularly.
