Customers say: Quality work

"Ismael was amazing to work with! He was so accommodating with scheduling us to have our patio done! Very professional, excellent quality of work, great at communicating with us and making sure we were happy! He kept us in the loop with what the plans were and what they were going to get done each day and always made sure to check with us before any changes were made. The patio looks AMAZING! We did the stamped concrete and absolutely love it! 10/10 recommend Ismael and his crew!"

"We are thrilled with the work done on our new sidewalk and patio. We're getting oohs and ahs from our neighbors. 5 Star Concrete were very easy to work with: responsive to calls, concerns and scheduling. This was a difficult job, but 5 Star stuck with us and explained exactly how he would resolve and he stuck to the plan. He even noticed an unrelated front stair that needed attention and fixed it since he was there. After their work was complete, my husband spotted one area, undiscussed, that could be improved and 5 Star came back within the week and addresssed the concern. Super responsive, fair and flexible. We would recommend 5 Star to anyone needing creative, competent and conscientious concrete work!"

"We had gotten way behind on our yard work, and the front and back yard had lots of weeds and thistle in the flower beds. I called a few different companies for estimates. Hector from Aerate gave the most detailed estimate for the work and materials needed, so we went with his company. The guys showed up early and worked hard all day. They dug up the weeds, edged the flower beds, pruned the bushes, and spread lots of mulch. The crew was very conscientious and cleaned up the walkway and driveway after they were finished. Now our landscaping looks brand new again. We're very pleased with the work."

"Professional, the owner Mike Lee was kind caring, and honest with his presentation. His son also Mike and workers performed high-quality work in my driveway. Had a contractor come by after they did the work and the owner was so impressed by the quality that I offered to share their contact information he was great for. I have saved their information I will be using them to reseal the driveway in April, May."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

You can expect your asphalt pavement to last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, or 25 years on average. The life expectancy of your asphalt driveway depends on the climate, the amount of traffic, and how well you maintain it. While you can’t necessarily control some of these factors, you can control the amount of maintenance effort you put into your driveway.

To prevent your asphalt from deteriorating prematurely, you should follow a good maintenance routine involving regular cleaning, reparation work, and resealing.

In the United States, roads are usually categorized as one of three types: public roads, other drivable roads, and non-drivable roads. These categories dictate how a road can be used; a non-drivable road might be classified that way because it is heavily damaged and unsafe for cars.

While blacktop is a type of asphalt, the terms should not be used interchangeably, as not all asphalt qualifies as blacktop. The primary differences are in their composition, production process, and ideal applications. Blacktop contains more stone than other types of asphalt and is heated to a higher temperature during production—300°F or more—while hot-mix asphalt is heated to between 275°F and 300°F. The ratio of bitumen (a tar-like crude oil) is a key differentiator, though sources vary: some state blacktop has less bitumen, making it less durable, while others claim it has a higher ratio. Due to these differences, asphalt is generally more durable and better for high-traffic areas like highways and streets, while blacktop is more suitable for playgrounds and residential driveways. For a driveway project, it is best to consult a professional to determine the most appropriate material.

There’s no single best asphalt grade—it all comes down to where and how it’s used. Highways and heavy-traffic roads need something tough, like polymer-modified asphalt (PMA) or Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA). Local roads and parking lots rely on the Performance Graded (PG) system, chosen based on climate. A PG 64-28 mix, for example, handles a broad temperature range while simpler, more cost-effective mixes are typically enough for residential driveways. The best grade of asphalt depends on traffic, weather, and your budget, which is why a professional’s input is always a smart move before making a decision.
