Jon, who performs the inspections and writes the inspection reports, spent the prior 18 years building, maintaining, and inspecting custom homes. He has managed and overseen the work of the full array of sub-contractors, from electricians and plumbers to HVAC and roofers, ensuring the integrity of the building process, that home owners’ desires are met, and helping them understand the significance of the different options available to them. With an eye for detail and a love of building, Jon has the experience to understand the relationship of the different systems in your home and the critical points to watch for. While fluent in the language of the various trades, Jon is able to clearly explain the details of your home to those of us who may not be. He will use clear, concise terms that enable you to understand your home and what it needs as well as lots of pictures to bring your report to life. We pride ourselves in providing the highest level of service on all fronts. Hire FINEST, and know we are committed to supporting you as you make one of your very most significant purchasing decisions.

"Jon at Finest Home Inspection was great. He walked us through the inspection and his findings on site as well as answered our specific questions about the house. Our inspection report was provided the same day and the radon test results were provided as soon as they were available. He let us know what he wasn't able to check because there were tenants living in the house. He gave us his honest opinion on the house when we asked him. It can be difficult to assess the thoroughness of a home inspection, but now that we've been living in our home for a while, I am confident our home inspection was thorough. We haven't run into any issues that were not addressed in the home inspection. I would recommend Finest Home Inspection."

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

Yes, shipping container homes have a very high resale value if they’ve been well maintained over the years. You can resell this home similar to how you’d resell any home. The value depends on the market and the condition. As a bonus, you can transport many container homes depending on the design, which makes them easier to sell if the local market is challenging.

Hiring a structural engineer who inspects foundations is the best way to find out if your foundation is up to code. These pros know building codes in and out and can inspect your foundation and prepare a report detailing anything that doesn’t meet code. A structural engineer can also recommend fixes for any problems they spot—you’ll just need to hire a foundation contractor to do the work.

Inspections for new construction may not be legally required, but you should consider them a must if you’re buying a new home. The quality of the construction can vary widely by builder, and many inspections, even for brand-new homes, can uncover problems with framing, structural components, mechanicals, appliances, and more. Professional inspection reports give you leverage to push the associated repair costs to the builder rather than paying for them yourself, so they’re always worthwhile, if only for the peace of mind they provide.

Experts suggest your HVAC system should be inspected once per year. If you’re buying a new home, it’s also a good idea to have the house’s HVAC system professionally checked before the final sale. For HVAC systems older than 10 years, it’s recommended they are inspected twice per year. If you suspect a problem, you should schedule an inspection, even if you’ve already had one this year.

How long the home inspection takes can vary greatly depending on the size of the home and the type of inspections being done—the same goes for receiving the final home inspection report. Some inspectors are busier than others, so it may take a little longer. Generally speaking, however, you can expect to receive the report within 1-2 business days after the inspection.
