"We also entertained a bid from another company that opened our eyes. Everett Was honest, candid, and realistic about what could be done. Where as the other company was vague, and used hard sell tactics. We were impressed when Everett brought in a kit to test our water, even though he had expressed concern that we may not have room in our laundry room for a water softener. Whereas the other guy made no effort to test anything, but told us a uv light unit couldn't properly do its job on our well water w/o a water softener unit. Naturally that was my first question for Everett. He said no, the light had a filter, and the hardness of the water had nothing to do with it...NO UPSELL. The other guy was very vague about pricing, but said we needed to lock it in because things are so crazy right now, it could jump thousands of dollars. That guy finally gave me an estimate between $3000-$6000. Quite alot of wiggle room there. EVERETT ON THE OTHER HAND, was open and honest about cost from our first conversation. His son, Austin showed up early, did a great job, and was very patient explaining things to us. So if your looking for a company that knows what they are doing, and relies on honest realism to sell there product, Jones Air and Water will take good care of you."

"Was surprised to get a response as quickly as I did. Even more surprised that he was able to complete the job the next day. Plumbers in this area are few and far between. We have a lot of iron in our water so this system has a third tank that addresses this issue instead of a small filter that we had to replace quite frequently."

"Everett is a very experienced and knowledgeable water guy. My water reeked of chlorine and was very hard (within three weeks of living here, my dog's water bowl had a crust of mineral hardness in bottom of bowl, so I knew the water was very hard). He tested my water and showed me the levels of chlorine (more than a public pool requires) and the hardness grains were approx. 14. I purchased a water softener and conditioner combo unit, and also a reverse osmosis system so as to have safe water for drinking, cooking and bathing, and to save my appliances from the hard water. I was very happy with his workmanship and the products installed. Taking a shower was a delight, no more nasty chlorine smell! Everett even did a few extra items for me, totally unrelated to the install, and I greatly appreciated his kindness and help! I would highly recommend this company for all your water needs! The price was right too! Pam"

"Perma-jack did what they said they were going to do and did it well.  Pricing was in line or slightly lower than from competitors.  They made recommendations, but didnot try to oversell.
My one complaint is that they did not warn us just how messy the concrete drilling and mud jacking was.  If they had sent a checklist ahead of time with recommendations to protect my house, it would have made my life much easier.  We knew it would be messy but did not realize just how bad it would be!!"

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can have both a water softener and a water filter. In fact, some manufacturers sell dual water softening and filtration systems that treat hard water and provide clean drinking water. If you’re unsure about what you need or want to discuss your options, reach out to a local water softener installation company.

No, hard water isn’t dangerous. The added calcium in hard water can contribute to good bone health. However, it can also cause dry skin and hair. If you have dry skin or hair, consider using a water-softening system to help minimize the minerals in your water. Plus, these systems can also add some sodium to your diet.

While not everyone can detect taste differences in high-calcium water, water that has a slightly metallic taste probably has too much calcium.

Whether you need a permit or license for a water softener installation depends on your location, as requirements vary significantly. Some municipalities require the installer to hold a plumbing license, some mandate a permit and an inspection, and others require both. In some areas, no special permit or license is needed at all.

To determine the rules in your area, you can contact your local building department or consult a local water softener installer or plumber. Often, only certified professionals are authorized to pull the necessary permits, and they will typically handle the entire permitting process for you. Regardless of local laws, it is always recommended to hire a licensed professional to ensure the system is sized and installed correctly. You can use Angi’s state licensing tool to check an installer’s license status.

The main difference between a water softener and a water filter is what they remove from the water. A water softener is specifically designed to remove hard minerals, while a filter removes a wider range of contaminants above a certain size, such as bacteria and other impurities. If your primary goal is to remove minerals, a softener is the best choice. If you want to remove various contaminants for safety or taste, a filter is more suitable. Filters are also typically less expensive to install. Depending on your water supply's specific issues, you may need to install both systems for comprehensive treatment.
