"On November 15th Chicago was hit with some extreme wind gusts that caused my water heater pilot light to extinguish. I thought this was a simple reset, but the problem was more complicated. I learned the electrode was defective. Had I undertaken this project as a DIY, I would have spent more time than I would have cared to try to figure out why I could not get a flame for my water heater. I was smart to call Four Seasons. My technician figured out the problem quickly. There are times when calling a professional makes sense. I am not an expert on water heaters outside of knowing how to turn it on, clean it periodically, and knowing when I need a new one. Thank you Four Seasons for responding quickly and bringing me hot water."

"They do great work! From puncutality to price, we will use no other company going forward. Since building a bedroom in our basement, we just had them back last week. We have/had a very small kitchen space in our typical 3 bedroom brick ranch in Chicago. We hired Pawel to remove the adjoining bedroom which we've converted into dining space. This included removal of two walls, reinforcement of two support beams, run electrical for canned lighting, install two other light fixtures, patch drywall and mend existing floors for a great flow. All was completed in a timely manner and of course, the finished product has exceeded our expectations.

"He did an excellent job.  It turned out to be more work than originally estimated to replaced the kitchen light with 2 recessed lights. He was very professional and did outstanding work.  I would hire him in the future for any other electrical needs.

"I hired 41 north builders in 2010 to remodel my first floor bath. Right off the bat I liked working with John. He did a good job of listening to our wants/needs and helped us maximize our budget. He went with us to several stores to help us find the right stuff and help us with us ideas for the bath. They did the work while we were on summer vacation for a week, and when we came home we had a beautiful new bathroom and a clean house. We loved how it turned out. We got lots of compliments on the new bathroom and feel we got a great value working with John and his crew. We liked the work on the first bathroom so much that when it was time to remodel the upstairs bathroom we called 41 north builders again. Once again, John was easy to work with. He worked closely with us to understand our budget and what we wanted and we once again felt we got great value for our remodeling dollars. Both bathrooms included new tile floors, new tubs, shower tile, lighting, sink, vanity, toilets, bathroom fixtures, etc. John and his crew did a good job of working around our schedules and keeping the house clean. They kept the disruptions to a minimum and if there were any small issues, they quickly and professionally dealt with them. I would recommend them to anyone looking to do a remodel project."

"The original work did not go so well with the installation of our recessed lighting and that was written up by Angie's List.  The owner of the company, Javier, came to our house and inspected the work that he team did and saw that it was unsatisfactory.  He is going to put more lights in our house and he will do the work himself.  The work performed the 2nd time was 6 recessed lights in my living room and 2 additional in the family room.  Javier and his helper were fantastic and the finished product is outstanding.  I would definitely use them again in the future.

The reason I am bringing up the grade is that Javier took the time to come inspect the work that was done and was doing anything possible to rectify the situation of turning an upset customer to a happy one.  He demonstrated accountability and excellent customer service of fixing the problem.

I praise them for being accountable."

"We asked for an estimate to hang 2 pendant lights, a track light and some re-wiring of a switch. They came and gave an estimate and were able to complete the work right there and then. They were friendly and fast but did a thorough job. They were on time for the appointment and we're very fair with the pricing. Would definitely recommend them."

Chandelier Installation questions, answered by experts

A ceiling light will usually have two or three wires: black, white, and sometimes green. Black wires are positive, or hot, while white wires are negative, or neutral. The green wire is the grounding wire.

When you’re wiring the light, connect black to black, white to white, and green to the grounding screw.

First of all, don’t shop for bargain lights—often, you’ll end up with a faulty or broken strand, full of dead bulbs or less-than-luminous brightness. Choose quality lights that will last you many years—LED lights have been known to last as long as 100,000 hours. Second, plan ahead and purchase lights for next year’s Christmas during this year’s post-holiday sales. Finally, have a vision and a plan—if you know the measurements of your home, including any windows, doors, and outside bushes you wish to light up, you should be able to only purchase the necessary lights and not more than you need.

Common fixtures include LED panels, recessed lighting, and heavy-duty outlets. Choose based on energy efficiency and usage.

The average cost to install outdoor or landscape lighting is around $4,000, with most projects ranging from $2,000 to $6,000. The total cost can vary widely depending on several factors, including the number of fixtures, design complexity, and the type and quality of the lights used, such as wall sconces, pathway lights, or lamp posts. Other factors that influence the price are the square footage of the area being lit, the amount of electrical work needed, any required excavation or trenching, and local permitting costs. For specific types, you might pay around $100 for pathway or string lighting and up to $700 for lamp post lighting.

You should hire a licensed electrician who is insured to perform any electrical work on your home, including lighting installation. States have different requirements for licensing and certifying electricians, so use Angi’s state licensing tool to review local guidelines.

Here are a few questions to ask electricians before hiring:

  • How many years of electrical experience do you have?

  • Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • Do you work with subcontractors?

  • Do you provide a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • What is the timeline for completion?

  • How do you handle change orders?

  • Can you provide at least three customer references?
