"When temperatures dropped to -50 with wind chill, the pipes to our basement bathroom sink froze. And as soon as everything began to thaw, (on Friday night) we found that we had a ruptured hot water pipe. Water was shooting out of the wall all over the bathroom. When it became clear that our usual plumber wasn't going to show up on Saturday, I frantically called half-a-dozen plumbers from Angie's List. Only Charlie got back to me and agreed to show up after his next job. On a day that he was clearly being overwhelmed with calls from all over the city, Charlie kept his word and showed up with his partner Dimitri. They quickly figured out there were no other leaks and repaired the pipe. On top of it, Charlie spotted two other unrelated plumbing issues in our HVAC room. They were minor now but could have turned into bigger problems down the road. His thoroughness and attention to detail allowed him to spot these hidden problems and save us headaches down the road. We had our water working in under an hour (on a Saturday evening!) and he charged a very fair price given the demands upon his time. He left our house at 5pm, his phone blowing up from other customers. I asked if he was going to have an end to the day soon, but he said he still had hours to go...he had promised other worried homeowners that he would help them today. "We had a large graduation party happening on a Sat & realized a bad smell was coming out of the sewer drain of ground floor on Tues. The first estimate told me we needed to dig up the pipe (which was under 1.5ft concrete AND a finished tile floor w/ embedded radiant heat pipes) because there was definitely a hole or a backflow there causing poop sewage to sit in the p-trap and it was an emergency health hazard. The estimate was $4500-7000. I spoke to Trinidad who had called me second and told him what they were advising and he said “why don’t you try just flushing the line yourself with a garden hose and some Clorox or pineal and see what happens, because if there was a hole in the p-bend there would be no water there” plus the smell would have been godawful. So I did that and the smell receded a huge amount. I thought I still smelled it that evening & he estimated a pro flush right away, was responsive fast via text, and I appreciated his honesty greatly."

"Well. I have a sewer backup system that Permaseal installed in 2012. Never had a problem with it and it solved my sewer backup problem. I am supposed to have it inspected annually. I skipped a few years by laziness. They inspected this year. All was in order. They did however recommend that I replace a pump that is beyond its expected useful life and also batteries that are beyond their life. Those will be done in September or October. At same time I asked them to look at a floor drain in an unfinished portion of my basement. Water had come up. They diagnosed that my kitchen sink was backing up into the floor drain and fixed the problem by rodding the pipe under the floor drain. They were prompt and efficient. I also arranged to prepay for 5 years of servicing."
