"Anthony and Brandon were excellent, extremely professional and knowledgeable! Anthony and Brandon repaired our chimney and installed a new damper and cap and beautiful new logs in under 2 hours! Both men were very friendly and answered all our questions. We couldn't be more excited about our new fireplace and cannot wait to show it off! We highly recommend A-1 Safety Chimney Service and Anthony and Brandon, they exceeded our expectations and we couldn't be happier!! Thank you Anthony and Brandon and A-1 Safety!!!"

"My house was victimized by last night's storm. That belongs on top of the chimney, not the neighbors' yard. I got on the phone first thing this morning. Two large companies offered me appointments for estimates next week. Anthony was out here and had the repair done by noon. He is very responsive, polite, and respectful. He was careful to avoid my milkweed with his ladder and tried very hard to not upset my overprotective dog who was traumatized by the roof blowing off my house. He had everything necessary on his truck and was done quickly, and well under other estimates. I am very glad Top Hat was available, especially as the sky broke open again tonight. Would absolutely recommend. Thanks for saving the day, Anthony!!"

Chimney Sweep questions, answered by experts

Burning a single palm tree stump, if you’re careful, is technically doable DIY. However, you should always take precautions to control the fire and do research if you’re burning multiple types of trees.

Some trees, such as ornamental trees, black cherry, and some oak trees, release toxins into the air when burned that can be irritating to your lungs (or even dangerous) to breathe in.

The timeline for fire damage restoration varies significantly, from a day or two to over a year, depending on the extent of the damage. For minor incidents like a small cooking fire, cleaning up soot and removing smoke odors may only take a day or two. Repairing minor damage might take about one to two weeks. However, a major fire requiring structural repairs, full property renovation, and replacement of materials can take anywhere from six to 12 months to over a year. This longer timeline often includes waiting for insurance approvals and contractor scheduling. It's best to consult with your insurance provider and restoration team to get an accurate timeline for your specific situation.

If untreated, smoke damage is definitely toxic. Carbon and tar are two types of toxic chemicals in smoke that can damage your lungs and other parts of your body if you breathe them in for long periods of time. If you still smell smoke after the fire, it’s important that you call your restoration team for support.

Yes, professionals use specialized treatments to remove smoke odors and improve indoor air quality.

Some of the most common chimney problems include:

  • Creosote buildup

  • Chimney blockage

  • Deteriorating brickwork or stonework

  • Cracked chimney top

  • Damaged flashing

  • Flue liner damage or deterioration

  • Damaged chimney cap

If you suspect you have a chimney problem, contact a masonry contractor for an inspection.
