"Plumber, Joseph Mistretta removed the old garbage disposal and installed a new one! He went above and beyond my expectations! He even fixed a couple things I didn’t even know needed fixing! His personality and professionalism is top notch! Makes me believe in humanity more! Joseph will always be first on my list when/if I need a plumber again, and will be recommended to anyone else I know!"

"Jim & Rob handled the service. When they realized that they were running late, they called early on to let me know. They were a completely in sink team. They were efficient, knowledgable and extremely courteous. My father had owned his own plumbing company post WWII, and was one of the first licensed plumbers in the state of Illinois; accordingly, I watched & had many plumbing questions regarding the install. Jim & Rob patiently shared their expertice. High recommend. A great experience."

"The main reason we will stop using Reliance’s services: we were promised boiler drains that we never got. Boiler drains do not need washers which is why we wanted them. The job took four days. July 6th we wasted a whole day waiting for service. We called Reliance immediately because we have used their plumbing services for years. We were very disappointed with their service. A plumber was scheduled to come and install two cut offs and replace faucet washers. This plumber promised us two premium quarter turn boiler drains for hot and cold water feeds (we never did get these boiler drains). He recommended replacing the faucet. The plumber did not have all the parts, so we scheduled him to come back July 5th. July 5th the plumber we had spoken to called in sick. Another plumber was assigned to the work. This plumber did not seem to know what the previous plumber had estimated for the job. We showed the new plumber the work order. He went to work. After he had changed the faucets and installed the cut offs, we asked about the quarter turn boiler drains. He said they could not find the parts locally and we did not need them anyway. He recommended replacing the old cement tub. The drain could no longer be hooked up to the old tub. We sheduled him to come back July 6th. We requested the boiler drains again. July 6th. The plumber was scheduled to come between noon and 2:00 pm. The office manager called to say that the plumber could not get there until 2:00-4:00pm. We understand that sometimes rescheduling happens. However, around 4:15 the office manager called again. He wanted to reschedule for Monday. We had been waiting all day and this was the third day. We wanted a plumber to come. The office manager said OK he would send someone. The plumber who was supposed to come called us and said it was too late to come. Could we schedule for Monday. We almost called another plumbing company at this point. We scheduled for early Monday morning. Monday July 9th The plumber came early Monday morning on time. He did not bring the boiler drains. This time he said the boiler drains were to unusual to install and we didnt need them. He redid some of the copper piping because he was installing a new tub. The copper piping has some unusual twists because the new tub was a different size from the concert tub. The plumbing job was professionally done, but it took four days. We paid for broiler drains we never got."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

Heavy clay soils throughout Northbrook retain moisture and exert intense pressure on buried pipes, making excavation slow and labor-intensive. The region's deep 42-inch frost line requires contractors to bury water supply lines significantly deeper than in warmer climates. Finished basements add severe complexity to plumbing, requiring extensive demolition and patching to access concealed pipes. Properties with older lead service lines mandate strict replacement protocols to ensure safe drinking water.

Helpful?

Older Northbrook homes built between the 1920s and 1970s feature cast iron drain lines and galvanized steel supply pipes that complicate plumbing. Full basements require breaking and pouring concrete to access buried drain lines. If you own a multi-story home, expect contractors to open walls on several levels to reach plumbing stacks. Check your property for clay tile sewer laterals, as these are highly susceptible to tree root intrusion.

Helpful?

Reject any quote that claims permits are unnecessary for plumbing. A reputable contractor will always secure the required permits and provide proof of general liability insurance. Watch out for professionals who ignore the condition of your sewer lateral or fail to account for sump pump configurations. Ensure the proposal explicitly references compliance with the IL plumbing code to protect your home from dangerous, substandard installation work.

Helpful?

Your Northbrook property is an excellent candidate for plumbing if it features modern copper supply lines and PVC drain pipes. Open, unfinished basements allow contractors to inspect and access pipes without tearing down drywall. Homes connected to municipal water systems offer straightforward upgrades. Watch out for large mature trees near your sewer line, as their roots aggressively invade older pipes and create extensive damage requiring immediate professional intervention.

Helpful?

Homeowners often overlook the strict permit application timelines and inspection scheduling delays required for plumbing. You are entirely responsible for the sewer lateral line connecting your house to the municipal main. Winter weather in IL creates significant scheduling hurdles, as the ground freezes past the required 42-inch frost depth. Plan your exterior excavation work for warmer months to avoid extensive delays and ensure your property remains safe and functional.
