Customers say: Super punctual

"Glenn did an excellent job installing a new ceramic tile floor in our bathroom. He had to also repair some rotted sub floor beneath the toilet area. He did a great job and it looks fantastic. We are planning a new floor in our kitchen and will definitely call Glenn again! Quality work! Our bathroom looks new again!"

"They were very responsive, making an appointment to be onsite only a business day or two after being called. The technician was polite and answered questions before beginning the job. The process only took a few hours and once the grout had fully dried the floor looked almost new. I had never tried having a tile floor professionally cleaned and I am very pleased with the result. Bella did a great job and I would use them again."

Customers say: Terrific value

"Quick response after we started process with HomeAdvisor and on time for the free quote project walkthrough. Provided some suggestions on including subfloor installation for our laminate floor installation job, and ideas on threshold between new laminate and existing ceramic tiles. I took all his suggestions and all of it worked out well. I even had him install new primed wood baseboard trim with quarter round that was extra cost. They took care of it in about 5 hours. (note that we did have the old carpet and old baseboards removed). Pricing was very reasonable for what he suggested that we do as extras and so pleased with the install and scheduling, we got it done fairly quickly. Side NOTE: we had started the process with our local home improvement store install sub, who took two weeks to come out to look at it, another week and half for the quote and no suggestions made, so no subfloor and no baseboard install included. (Note that the "sale installation" price from home improvement center, was more than double on the quote!-shoulda went with homeadvisor from start). As another reviewer mentioned, there will be a lot of sawdust and they did best that they could cleaning up; i used a blower in the garage and it worked out well. Again, quick response to calls; came when they said; quality and efficient installation for reasonable price- we are well pleased."

"Did a great job. Prompt visit to do estimate and timely scheduling. Came and did work and there was an issue with surface after it dried (invisible until next day). Messaged their office and they were back 2 days later and fully remedied the issue by re-grinding and applying material from a different batch. They resurfaced a porch that was spalling and it perfectly matches the stairs. Very friendly and cleaned up job site nicely."

"Aron did a great job. He stripped the tub and put bondo on the bad spots. All of the grout joints were re-grouted due to some having some slight cracks. This all cost a little more but well worth it. I wish he would have come out to look rather than doing a phone quote. The final product, the tub and wall tiles all look fantastic. What a difference in the room. Make sure the house is well ventilated. The product really smells. Overall, it was a great experience. Let's see how it holds up. I would recommend Aron for this job. I would hire him again. Happy to have this done."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

You can technically install tile over tile, but we don’t suggest it. Installing tile over any surface that isn’t a completely flat and prepared subfloor will result in a shoddy overall job, uneven flooring, tiles that don’t adhere, extra weight, gaps, cracks, and room for moisture and dirt to enter. For the best results, only install new tile on a flat, sanded surface like subflooring or concrete that is prepared for tile.

If you have asbestos tile and would rather tile over it than remove it, or if your existing tile is completely flat and bonded tightly to the floor, you may be able to tile over existing tile. But experts recommend thinking twice before you do.

There are several low-maintenance shower floor tiles to consider for your bathroom. Stone tiles are easy to keep clean and only need an occasional resealing to keep them looking their best. Porcelain is another low-maintenance choice, as it doesn’t stain easily. Vinyl is also suitable for easy upkeep. On the other hand, one of the highest maintenance options for bathrooms is wood tile.

The easiest tile size to install is large tiles, and they’re easier to install than small tiles—the job is faster and simpler when there’s less placing, adhering, and grouting to do. However, when tiles get really big, they’re more difficult to handle, cut, and fit. Standard floor tile sizes are 12-by-12 inches, 18-by-18 inches, and 12-by-24 inches.

You can attach tiles to a wall using thin-set mortar. You’ll also need a notched trowel to create grooves within the adhesive so it flattens completely when pressed in and securely holds the wall tiles. Finally, you’ll need grout to smooth the gaps between the tiles and, ideally, a grout sealer to prevent mold. While it sounds simple enough, proper planning and execution are crucial, so carefully review the steps in this guide or hire a pro tile installer to complete this project.

Yes, provided you aren’t installing drywall over it. But you can skim coat it, apply new tile right on top, paint it, or stencil it. For more budget- and DIY-friendly options, you can install beadboard or apply decals. Just make sure that the current tiles are in good condition and prepped well for the paint or adhesive to stick.
