Customers say: Super punctual

"Glenn did an excellent job installing a new ceramic tile floor in our bathroom. He had to also repair some rotted sub floor beneath the toilet area. He did a great job and it looks fantastic. We are planning a new floor in our kitchen and will definitely call Glenn again! Quality work! Our bathroom looks new again!"

Customers say: Quality work

"David is personable, knowledgeable, and does excellent work. He removed old laminate and tile in our bathroom and replaced with new tile. Despite running into a couple of unexpected problems, he worked through those quickly, effectively, and efficiently. The finished project is beautiful. I would highly recommend David for any tile work. And he is definitely on my very short list for any future projects."

"Ruben and his team completed a full kitchen remodel in less than 1 week at our home. The remodel started with some demolition work (removing counters, cabinets, and sink). He and the team then completed updates to the floor and walls before installing new appliances, cabinets, and counter tops. He and the team also completed a subway tile backsplash and electrical work. The work was high quality. The team was on time everyday (8:00 am sharp). We love the kitchen and the efficiency in which the project was completed. Ruben was very communicative throughout the process and helped with other projects in the house such as installing light fixtures and curtains. Ruben's Remodeling is highly recommended. We will use them again for future projects!!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Yes, but you should only put tile directly on drywall in smaller areas that don’t experience excess moisture. For example, a small kitchen tile backsplash could work, but installing tile directly on the drywall in a bathroom or other chronically damp area is not a good idea. Either way, a cement backer board is a far more reliable solution, as drywall is susceptible to moisture and can warp or cause your tiles to crack.

Thinset mortar is the best adhesive for ceramic tiles on concrete. It is easy to work with and has a slower dry time than mastic or epoxy mortars. This longer dry time gives the installer more time to adjust tiles, which is especially useful for DIYers who may not have tile installation experience. It can also be built up to help level any depressions or gaps in the concrete subfloor.

The cost depends on the type of natural stone. High-end stones can cost as much as porcelain, but it depends on the specific material. For example, the cost of flagstone pavers is typically $2 to $6 per square foot, which is much more budget-friendly than porcelain. Outdoor slate tile can cost as much as $35 per square foot, which is about the same as porcelain.

There are a few different tools you can use to score tiles. Manual tile cutters or tile scribes work well for scoring in straight lines. Tile nippers are one of the best options for scoring because they can make small and irregular cuts that larger tools may not be able to handle.

Penny tile should be sealed to protect the grout from moisture and keep stains from damaging the look of the tile. If penny tile is in a humid or high-traffic area, like a bathroom, kitchen, or entryway, it needs sealant. Any type of tile and grout is best maintained with a sealant reapplied by a pro every one to two years.
