Customers say: Super punctual

"Glenn did an excellent job installing a new ceramic tile floor in our bathroom. He had to also repair some rotted sub floor beneath the toilet area. He did a great job and it looks fantastic. We are planning a new floor in our kitchen and will definitely call Glenn again! Quality work! Our bathroom looks new again!"

"They were very responsive, making an appointment to be onsite only a business day or two after being called. The technician was polite and answered questions before beginning the job. The process only took a few hours and once the grout had fully dried the floor looked almost new. I had never tried having a tile floor professionally cleaned and I am very pleased with the result. Bella did a great job and I would use them again."

Small jobs welcome

"Two words: "Fantastic job". Our marble shower, floor and counter tops in our master bath look absolutely beautiful and like new! FCH Marble was very easy to work with and arrived on time and finished the job on time. Highly recommend this company. We had our master bath restored 6 yrs ago by another vendor and there was a significant difference in the quality of work between the two vendors. So glad we found FCH Marble!"

"Did a great job. Prompt visit to do estimate and timely scheduling. Came and did work and there was an issue with surface after it dried (invisible until next day). Messaged their office and they were back 2 days later and fully remedied the issue by re-grinding and applying material from a different batch. They resurfaced a porch that was spalling and it perfectly matches the stairs. Very friendly and cleaned up job site nicely."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

The difference between floor and wall tiles is that floor tiles generally have higher strength and porosity ratings than wall tiles. Wall tiles are typically weaker and more likely to crack or become damaged under sustained pressure like high foot traffic.

For this reason, avoid using wall tiles on floors and vice versa.

The cost to install porcelain tile is about $1,930 on average. Porcelain tile prices range from $880 to $3,000 or more. The average cost tends to be higher than ceramic tile because porcelain tile is very durable. Porcelain tile rating also factors into the material cost. Tile ratings are as follows:

  • Grade 0: Walls only

  • Grade 1: Walls and light traffic floors

  • Grade 2: Rooms with light traffic, but not kitchens or hallways

  • Grade 3: Kitchens, hallways, and entryways

  • Grade 4: Any area, interior or exterior

  • Grade 5: Highest durability good for any area, interior or exterior

Yes, it’s possible to cut tile without a wet saw; instead, you can use an angle grinder, a glass cutter, a snap cutter, tile nippers, or a rotary tool with a tile-cutting blade. A manual tile cutter or snap cutter works well for the larger tiles that wet saws are typically used for, while smaller projects might just require nippers or a glass cutting wheel. If you’re working with large quantities of tile, however, power tools are best.

Uniform spacing between tiles is important for a professional and clean appearance. To achieve this spacing, tile spacers should be placed between the tiles and left in place until the mortar hardens and the tiles are secure. You can use X-shaped spacers vertically in between the tiles and laid flat at the corners.

When choosing tiles for a shower floor, avoid highly porous tile materials, like those with a water absorption rating over 7%. Don’t use non-vitreous tiles, or tiles fired at low temperatures, because they will absorb more water. If you use a highly porous tile in the shower, the tiles can wear down faster, meaning they’ll need to be replaced much sooner.
