"They had the whole tree taken down within the afternoon. The tree was surrounded by power lines, which no other tree service could handle with the equipment they had. They pulled out the remaining roots that would've damaged our newly paved driveway . We also were very satisfied with their landscaping . Highly recommended! They will be the first to call if we need any work done."

"My new home had four 85 ft tall trees branching over top of my entire house. I called the local tree experts for a quote; due to the closure of the Il hwy 17 Lacon bridge and as a non-commercial job I could not get a quote to remove the trees until I called AJC home services. I had no idea what type of service to expect. Ben, of AJC, quoted the job & promptly arrived on site. During the two days the team worked in high humidity 90° heat I was informed and consulted throughout the process by the most courteous crew. The trees were carefully removed and placed on the ground piece by piece. Nothing was damaged. They used mats under the boom truck to protect my lawn and they used a leaf blower to remove tihe sawdust from the roof of my house when done. Excellent five-star, world-class work. Iâ d recommend AJC to anyone, everyone."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

In general, trees should be planted no closer than 15 to 20 feet from your foundation. For larger trees with far-reaching roots like maples, oaks, or poplars, a good guide is to plant as many feet from your home as the tree’s height is expected to reach at maturity. Some trees, like elms and willows, should only be planted far from where their roots may encounter sewer or water lines.

A tree branch should start to form roots in about three months. It can take about a year for a tree branch to develop roots strong enough to go in the ground. For best results, start several branches because, no matter how closely you follow instructions, they won’t all form roots. Compost any that aren’t thriving.

Cutting down a tree next to power lines is never a DIY job, and it’s a good idea to contact your utility company first. In most cases, the utility company will need to take care of any tree problems within 10 to 15 feet of power lines. If you want to remove the tree for aesthetic reasons, hire a pro to do the job. Trying to cut trees near power lines yourself can create many safety hazards, and you could be liable if you inadvertently cause damage to electrical equipment.

If you’re buying a small tree with lots of room to grow, expect to pay around $100 to $200 for a potted version. But if you’re buying a larger tree—say one over 10 feet—prices rise, starting in the $500 to $600 range and increasing quickly from there. Keep in mind that paying for professional palm tree planting or transplanting services will increase the cost.

For Bradford pears, damage from storms is common, and if the trunk splits, it can pose a danger to people and surrounding structures. The best thing to do in that instance is to have the tree removed. If there’s only minor damage to the branches, pruning away the damaged parts is the first order of business. You may also want to consult a professional arborist to make sure the tree is healthy.
