"We have hired Aerate 1 several times and have always been thrilled with their work. They planted a tree and provided pruning after the tree matured. They surrounded our above ground pool with drainage covered by pea gravel inside brick, and installed a paver walkway to the pool's heater. They landscaped the front and side with mulch inside brick. Every time they do work they make the site look better than when they arrived, even in areas only slightly impacted by their work. I highly recommend their company due to their excellent work and commitment to keeping their promises about when and what will be done!"

Customers say: Super punctual

"JD and his team just did the second job for us - new front yard sod & some new backyard plantings. The work is beautiful, just what we wanted, and was done efficiently and with such a great, positive crew. JD is meticulous - you get a beautiful yard and simple instructions to keep it that way! He has a great feel for what the customer wants and understands what it's going to look like all year round and over the long term. His original design is still beautiful almost 10 years later. Highly recommend, thanks JD!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

A common mistake during asphalt paving in Joliet is choosing a contractor based only on the lowest bid without checking local references or insurance. Other errors include scheduling work too late in the season, which risks weather delays, and failing to plan for proper drainage. Skipping required city permits or not getting a detailed written contract can also lead to significant problems and unexpected expenses.

Helpful?

In Joliet, challenges can arise if your property has steep slopes, clay-heavy soil, or is near areas prone to flooding. Narrow driveways, multiple elevation changes, or mature trees with large roots may require specialized equipment or extra planning. Homes with attached garages, retaining walls, or unique layouts often need custom drainage solutions. Check if your neighborhood has specific requirements for stormwater management or driveway design.

Helpful?

In Joliet, it’s wise to consider asphalt paving or driveway resurfacing if you notice cracks wider than ¼ inch, potholes, or “alligator” cracking. Surfaces older than 15 years, or those with fading, pooling water, or drainage issues, often need attention. The best time to schedule work is from late spring through early fall, before freezing weather arrives, to ensure proper curing and long-lasting results.

Helpful?

For maintaining asphalt paving in Joliet, it’s helpful to keep a cold-pour crack filler, wire brush, and squeegee for quick repairs. Consider having an asphalt-based sealer, mixing paddle, and drop cloths for periodic sealcoating. A pressure washer and stiff broom make cleaning easier, while an asphalt-safe de-icer and snow pusher with a rubber edge help protect your driveway in winter. Always use gloves and eye protection for safety during repairs.

Helpful?

For long-lasting asphalt paving in IL, a solid foundation is critical to withstand freeze-thaw cycles. Proper drainage is also essential to manage the region's clay soil. The installation must include adequate compaction and a thickness of at least three inches. Consistent maintenance, including sealcoating every two to three years and sealing cracks before winter arrives, is key to protecting your investment from the Illinois climate.
