After I asked the installer if he can trim it, he said he doesn’t have hand saw and cannot use his power saw to do it. He told me I will have to buy my own saw and cut it myself. That defeats the purpose of hiring and paying for a professional to do their job!"

Yes, ammonia does damage pipes if used or disposed of improperly. Although ammonia-based cleaners are commonly used to unclog drain pipes, they either come already diluted or instruct the user to dilute them before use. Otherwise, undiluted ammonia is too caustic and could corrode certain plumbing types, such as PVC.
