"I had 2 Mies van der Rhoe ottomans in need of reupholstering. Montalbano Inc. recovered the cushions and polished the chrome. Both ottomans look brand new. They did a great job."

Small jobs welcome

"They were super helpful and responsive. Fabric choices were almost unlimited. Once the fabric was ordered and arrived, the work was done in five days. They picked up my chairs and delivered them for free. Both chairs look wonderful, and I couldn’t be happier. I might have spent less buying new chairs, but I would have spent time, and wasted gasoline, chasing around finding what I wanted."

"I spoke with salesperson at Paul's and got a general idea on pricing for my sofa. They asked me to come in to select my fabric. I went to the Alsip location to meet with the salesperson and pick out my fabric. The salesperson there was very helpful in helping me select my fabric, gave many selections to choose from and, and was very honest about pricing for both in-stock and book material. The time frame they quoted me was within 6 weeks from time of pickup to time of delivery. The deliverymen did an excellent job and were very mindful of my walls and other furniture when taking my sofa from and back to my home when it was done. The sofa was done perfectly, and within the 6 weeks I was quoted originally. In fact, it was done closer to 4 and a half weeks! They answered every question I had, and understood my concerns in upholstering something that has been in my family for generations. I am very pleased with every aspect of the job, from the fabric selection to the workmanship on the sofa."

"We have actually used this provider a couple of times, but most recently we had an emergency in which one of our dogs ate a bag of white chocolate morsels and proceeded to throw up in every single room of our house (no one was home).  She threw up in places like the middle of a sofa (efficiently and effectively soiling 4 cushions as well as the base of the sofa) and an upholstered chair (again, hitting the seat cushion, back, and base).  Keith and his technicians came on two occasions to clean up the mess, which I honestly did not think could be done.  The rugs and chair and sofa are cleaner than ever before, and we have our home back.  Keith's prices are very fair, and he is very accommodating to his customers' schedules.

"Although I live in Alaska, Premium Leather helped me solve a cleaning problem with my ultra suede couch.  Mailing leather items to repair, dye or clean is a wonderful solution for people who live in an area where no leather cleaners exist.  I highly recommend premium leather

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

Yes, many custom builders offer finishing and upholstery options tailored to your style.

Doing your own upholstery work is possible, but it’s typically a better idea to leave the work to professionals. Without experience and the proper tools, it’s difficult to get a professionally finished appearance for your furniture, and many DIYers end up spending money on tools and materials only to hire a professional when they can’t get the fabric to look right. If you have reupholstery experience, feel free to give it a shot. However, if you’re not confident in your skill level or you’re working with antiques, it’s worth the money to hire a pro.

Reupholstering an old or antique chair can be worthwhile if the frame is still sturdy and the piece has sentimental or monetary value. Reupholstery often costs less than buying a high-quality new chair, and you can customize the look. However, extensive repairs or rare fabrics may increase the total cost.

If your couch is damaged, you are not out of options. You might try fixing it on your own, bring in a furniture repair specialist, or opt to get rid of it responsibly. Depending on its condition, you could donate, sell, recycle, or drop it off at a local scrap facility.

The average cost to reupholster a piece of furniture is around $720, with most projects falling in the $380 to $1,150 range. The final price can vary significantly based on several factors. These include the size and complexity of the furniture, the cost of the new fabric (which typically ranges from $50 to $70 per yard), and hourly labor rates (often $40 to $100 per hour). Additional factors that influence the price are the piece's current condition, its age, whether it needs other repairs, the number of pieces being reupholstered, and your geographic location.
