Customers say: True professional

"We have used Montalbano in the past for a chair caning task, and they do great work. Unfortunately, with this project, it was awarded to another Angie List company because they were more cost competitive. We will consider Montalbano in the future."

"Lonnie's service and work are truly wonderful! An appointment was made quickly and his arrival was prompt. He was very knowledgeable about the art of upholstery and was a wealth of resource to bringing our project to pass. "We have actually used this provider a couple of times, but most recently we had an emergency in which one of our dogs ate a bag of white chocolate morsels and proceeded to throw up in every single room of our house (no one was home).  She threw up in places like the middle of a sofa (efficiently and effectively soiling 4 cushions as well as the base of the sofa) and an upholstered chair (again, hitting the seat cushion, back, and base).  Keith and his technicians came on two occasions to clean up the mess, which I honestly did not think could be done.  The rugs and chair and sofa are cleaner than ever before, and we have our home back.  Keith's prices are very fair, and he is very accommodating to his customers' schedules.

"Although I live in Alaska, Premium Leather helped me solve a cleaning problem with my ultra suede couch.  Mailing leather items to repair, dye or clean is a wonderful solution for people who live in an area where no leather cleaners exist.  I highly recommend premium leather

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

Furniture made from materials resistant to sun fading includes metals like aluminum, stainless steel, and wrought iron, as well as certain synthetic materials like polyethylene (commonly used in outdoor wicker furniture) and resin-based products. Glass tables and accents are also sun resistant. These materials inherently withstand UV rays and are less prone to fading or discoloration. Furniture with UV-resistant coatings or finishes, such as powder-coated metal or UV-protected plastics, offers enhanced protection against sun-induced fading.

Paying to reupholster a piece of furniture means you want to hire the right upholstery service, especially for a piece that’s expensive or carries a lot of sentimental value. In your search for the right upholstery company, be sure to:

  • Ask around to see if friends or family know of any upholsterers

  • Find reviews of the company or individual

  • Look at the photo gallery of their work to see if they work on furniture like yours and if you like their work

  • Check qualifications and references

  • Ask the upholstery service if they work on furniture like yours, what their schedule looks like, how they handle payments, and how long the job will take

Yes, you can reupholster antique furniture, and it’s a great way to extend the life of your pieces and keep them looking fresh and new for years to come. In fact, since reupholstering furniture is significantly more affordable than replacing it, reviving antique furniture can be a cost-effective way to keep that family heirloom usable for much longer. It’s usually a good idea to leave antique reupholstering to a professional, as they will have the tools and expertise to ensure the piece isn’t damaged and looks professionally finished.

To safeguard your furniture and upholstered items, it's best to use plastic wrap or specially-made plastic sofa covers. However, you should avoid wrapping wooden furniture in plastic if you plan on storing it, as plastic can trap moisture and warp the wood, plus it may damage certain finishes. In either case, old blankets or moving blankets make excellent alternatives. For protecting delicate glass table tops and mirrors, bubble wrap is always a reliable choice.

The best way to test the quality of a leather couch is to put your hands on it. If the upholstery is soft and warm, that’s a good indication that the quality is higher. It should also smell like traditional leather. If it smells like chemicals, you’re probably dealing with low-grade leather.
