"Requesting a quote from and then hiring Illinois Tree Service was quick and easy. Their quote was the same as another large operation in town, but they didn't need to bring massive equipment into the yard as the other company had in the past. A large crew of men worked safely and efficiently for about six to seven hours to remove both old cottonwoods and grind their stumps. They cleaned up beautifully as they worked and left the yard free of sticks and branches. I would highly recommend them."

"Fernandez Tree Care was amazing to work with. I had a large White Pine in my back yard that needed some help. I initially wanted to just trim the tree but on closer inspection and conversation we decided it was best to remove the tree due to the health and age of the tree. Humberto (super nice guy) is a certified Arborist and while speaking through all of our options he was very informative and understanding that I was having a hard time deciding to remove the tree (he should also be a licensed therapist for how indecisive I was) but, as mentioned above, due to health and age of the tree, trimming it was only a band-aid for future issues. Day of, the crew was very friendly, professional, and quick. An 8 hour job only took about 5 hours and they helped with a few other tree/stump issues around the property because they had the equipment there. They did not have to do this but it was no trouble for Humberto and his team. They also took great care in cleaning up in both my yard and my neighbors yard where debris fell. Neighbors have already asked for the recommendation because they were so professional. All this at a very reasonable price too. I look forward to working with Fernandez Tree Care again very soon to get a new tree set up in our yard and would absolutely recommend this team to anyone needing help with their trees, trimming, fertilizing, or removing."

Customers say: Quick response

"Hugh quickly responded and quoted a very good price to grind three tree stumps in our backyard. He provided useful information in person and thru his website regarding what to expect during and after the stump grinding. No problem bringing the equipment into the backyard. Professional and friendly. Very good job!"

"Of all the Landscape Designers I consulted, Dean from D&D was the most responsive. He came when he said he would. I have a small yard, but I wanted all new plants. I am not into gardening. My only requirement was that the redesigned yard have color during the entire growing season. Dean made a design and went over it with me, showing me the new design on paper and then using pics on an iPad to show me how the plants he was recommending would look in different seasons. He said he would require that I pay for the underground irrigation system and landscape lights he wanted to install. I had not planned on that so I asked him to explain. He explained that the underground drip irrigation would ensure that the plants would be regularly watered per a timer. He said the lights would make the landscaping look beautiful after dark. The price he quoted for all of it was reasonable and he did everything he said he would around the time he said he would. He did come by a few days before starting the project, looked at two of the trees in the yard, and said, he would like to replace them. He explained how the new trees he planned to put in their stead would enhance the beauty of the yard. Dean did a fantastic job with the design. It looks beautiful and has improved the curb appeal of my house. I have had multiple neighbors - including a family who has a beautiful yard themselves - stop to tell me how beautiful the new landscaping looks. The irrigation system has caused me to be totally worry-free about watering the plants. The lights do enhance the beauty of the yard and the house at night. I had not imagined that my small yard could look this pretty. Dean is pleasant to work with. He is responsive. And he uses technology and simple explanations to help amateurs like me understand what he is visualizing. He did the work on time, Except for the cost of the two trees he added later, his estimate was accurate. I would trust Dean's landscape design skills again in a heartbeat."

"Very responsive both for initial visit and follow-up work. They trimmed several tall hornbeam trees and a redbud, and removed older dying bushes including stump grinding. They left the area clean. Price was reasonable. Overall great experience. I will definitely call them with future landscaping needs."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Dying trees and even dead trees can spread diseases to other living trees. There are many different types of tree diseases, so it’s essential to address the issue as soon as possible to prevent the disease from spreading to other healthy trees. If the tree cannot be saved and is infected, you need to have it removed to protect the other trees on your property.

In most cases, leaving tree roots underground is not a problem if the stump has been removed or ground below the soil. However, some larger roots may decompose, leaving dents in your soil. Additionally, some aggressive trees, including willows, oaks, elms, maples, and poplars may grow back from roots. Large aggressive trees with established root systems are more likely to grow back.

Since each tree is different, it’s impossible to say how long a dead tree can remain on your property. While it could be days, months, or even years, it’s highly likely that, at some point, the tree will fall. In the meantime, dying or dead trees can become a haven for pests, so it’s best to have them removed sooner rather than later.

While trees can grow in the curb strip between the sidewalk and the street, this placement often poses the problem of interfering with overhead power lines. It’s best to consult your local utility provider and tree planting service before transplanting a tree that might grow into power lines. Also, you should never work within 20 feet of a live power line to avoid the risk of electric shock. Tree branches should never touch nearby power lines, so it’s essential to ensure your tree isn’t in danger of growing too close to them.

A dead tree should always be cut down, because it could fall and cause injuries or damage, and it can also attract insects like carpenter ants. A tree that’s diseased beyond repair should also be cut down, but it’s not always easy for a homeowner to tell. Signs of disease include dying branches, a hollow trunk, leaning, and discolored or missing leaves, but your best bet is to hire a local arborist who can evaluate the tree and tell you if it can be saved or should be cut down.
