"Umberto and his crew did a great and efficient job taking down and chipping two large trees in my yard. They fulfilled my special requests, replaced the fences they had to take down, and were very careful not to disturb my garden beds. Umberto is a certified arborist, yet charged me the same price I was quoted by other companies that were just general landscapers. He was friendly, accommodating, and easy to work with. Highly recommended."

"Hugh did a great job grinding the buried roots of my already cut down Locust tree. He had to work in a small space and get many roots. He is a listener, hard worker, and thorough."

"We hired Chicago Service Source in May to completely renovate our kitchen and guest bathroom. The process was easy and all our questions were answered. The project went really well and the owner kept us updated daily. We did make some last minute changes that delayed the project a bit but the contractor was understanding and accommodated all our changes. The project was kept at our budgeted price and we really liked the daily updating reports and photos. The kitchen and bath came out spectacular and our home looks wonderful thanks to Chicago Service Source and their dedicated staff."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

You will know that an oak tree needs to be removed when you see vertical cracks or dead branch stubs, which indicate internal decay. Other signs include trunk rot near the base of the tree and sprouts or small branches coming from the trunk.

Since overwatering can harm mature trees just as much as a lack of water, it’s important to know the signs of an overwatered tree. If your tree’s leaves are yellowing, wilting, or dropping leaves, it’s likely that you’re overwatering. Other common signs include rotting, fungi, soggy soil, soft or peeling bark, falling leaves, and brittle roots.

If you realize that you’ve been overwatering your mature tree, stop watering and give the soil time to dry out. Then moving forward, increase time between watering sessions.

Peach trees grow to be about 25 feet, so keep this in mind for pruning as well. If you plan to DIY, you’ll need to be comfortable working on a ladder. Without pruning, peach tree branches can sprawl nearly as wide as the tree grows tall, so make sure to plan pruning sessions at least once per year in the spring for controlled growth. And if you’re working on a ladder, be sure to follow all safety precautions, especially if you’ll be dealing with falling branches.

Debris removal is often included in the overall cost of having a tree removed from your property. However, tree maintenance service companies do not always include debris removal in their pricing, so ask any contractors offering tree trimming cost estimates whether or not removal is included. If you want to keep the wood mulch, ask if they charge extra for it as well.

Deciduous shade trees (the type of trees whose leaves fall off in autumn) need to be pruned in late winter—between February and March. That’s because it’s easier to find and remove sick or dead branches when no leaves are present. And wounds close and heal faster in colder temperatures so pruning them at this time also makes them less prone to infection.
