The door jamb is one part of the door frame, which means you can sometimes replace or fix the door jamb without replacing the frame. However, check the frame for damage before you work on the door jamb. If there’s damage to the frame, you’ll need to fix that before repairing or replacing the door jamb.

Over time, the weight of a door and wear on the hinge itself can cause hinge pins to come loose and fall out. It’s a good idea to periodically check your hinges to ensure the pins are fully in place. If your hinge pins have become loose, gently tap them back into place with a hammer or replace the pin.

First, it's possible that your door hinge pin was designed not to be removable for security purposes. If this is the case, the pin is either encased within the barrel or secured using rivets. If a pin is stuck even though it's intended to be removable, it may be weighed down by paint or rust. If dried paint is causing a pin to stick, use a knife to carefully cut through the layers of paint that are caked into the area between the plate and pin. If rust is the culprit, lubricate the area.

To remove painted-over hinges for replacement or paint removal, you should use a utility knife to score around the edges of the hinges gently. Work very carefully so as not to damage the surrounding area. From there, you can unscrew the hinges and gently pry them off the door, making sure not to bend the metal.
